Hi my garmin nuvi 255w keeps powering off

The nuvi is about 6mnths old. today it just froze during startup and when the vehicle is turned off the nuvi turns off too. when manually switching on, it goes off at the acknowledge prompt.

Try resetting the unit and also charge it using only the wall charger overnight. Here's how to reset -it just puts everything back to factory settings - 1- Turn unit on WHILE HOLDING your thumb in the lower right corner as shown in picture. 2-Select YES PLEASE Take the time to vote me up this is my only reward for trying to help. Is this the USB data cable or is it the vehicle power cable?
Is it possible that you may have the wrong cable for the nuvi 255W?
The proper data cable is Garmin part number 010-10723-01.
The proper vehicle power cable is part number 010-10723-06.

Would you like to back up a copy of your Garmin Nuvi 200 Favorites and Waypoints?

Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites:
  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After a hard reset or loss of data, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.

My garmin nuvi 255W does not start when I turn on the car
Hello,

Does the nuvi power on without being connected to the vehicle power cable? If not, first place to look would be to check the vehicle power cable for power being supplied to the nuvi. The led indicator on the power cable that plugs into the vehicle port should be lit up. If it does not light up, the fuse may need to be replaced in the plug.
The power outlet on the vehicle should also be check to be sure that it is supplying power.

Doing a soft reset on the nuvi will usually get the nuvi up and running.
If there is a reset button on the bottom, press and hold it until the nuvi powers back on. If it does not have the reset button on the bottom, slide and hold the power switch to the left for at least 10 seconds.
Also running the Garmin WebUpdater and reloading the latest update will resolve most issues.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

On the bottom of the Garmin 255W is a long sticker...with a Icon that says reset...peel the sticker back and under it you will find a break away tab...the reset button is under there..

The simple way is to send the unit to Garmin they will load the maps for free.
If you keep trying - try this -

With your thumb in the lower right corner of the screen - pushing in - like there is an X there - [ push with your thumb before you turn it on] Turn it on -
when this screen comes up - push YES -

then try your maps.
If they do not load on your pc [ which must have the unit hooked up and a legit copy of the newest maps ] then send the unit to Garmin. They will load your maps for you FREE. 86278d7.jpg

Hi,
to soft reset & keep data....
Slide power key to on/off, hold it for 8/10 seconds

Update from Garmin, use the web-updater. keep it updated, delete old junk and POIs.

hard reset.
Hold lower corner of screen, while turning on, keep pressing, when "clear all data appears" click yes,
sould resolve the problem
