There is a freeze stat on the unit it connects to the evaporater coils it is suppose to shut of the compressor unit when it senses the temp is at freezing the idea is that the unit condenses moisture out of the air like your air conditioner for your house or car this part is dirty or malfunctionong

Frigidaire FDL50s1 runs continuously but will not collect water. What could be the problem & can it be fixed?

Thank you for your post, K!

I understand that your Frigidaire dehumidifier is continuously running and it is not collecting water. This can be caused by a dirty filter. A dirty filter can restrict air flow which will allow your dehumidifier to not pull in air. I would recommend checking your filter to make sure it is clean.

Frost on the coils within your dehumidifier will also cause your dehumidifier to stop working as well. You should check to make sure that there is not frost visible on your dehumidifier. If you do locate frost you would need to perform a manual defrost on your dehumidifier and you can do that by disconnecting power from it for at least two to three hours.

If these steps do not resolve your issue you may need to reach out to the manufacturer for a proper resolution. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

My dehu has frost on coils most of the the

if the room air is cooler than the dehumidifier then they will frost over. normally frosting over means loss of freon but because it is a closed system there probably isn't. if the air's moisture level [humidity] is low then don't even run the machine.

Dehumidifier

Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.

Thank you for your allowing me to advise you on this issue.

Doesnt take any water out

Most dehumidiers have a "Frost Guard" thermal protector on the condensor coil. This protector will turn the compressor off should the temperature fall below 65 degrees in the basement. The condensor fan will still continue to run anticipating the restart of the compressor.
Hence, 3 things could be wrong.
1. air temp.of basement is too cold
2. Frost guard could be faulty
3. Freon leak in condensor coil.
Assuring that basement temp. is above 65 degrees is about all you can do unless you have it checked out by a technician.

Unusual smell

Odors are generally caused by stagnant water or chronically dirty condenser coils. 1) Unplug the unit. 2) Empty the reservoir, mop up any damp areas, and clean the coils with a brush and a garden hose. Note: You can have a dehumidifier's coils steam-cleaned at an appliance-repair or auto-repair shop, but if you do this, have the unit checked after the cleaning to be sure the electrical components haven't been disturbed. Allow to dry in a warm place for at least 24 hours.
