Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Most of the time when the symptom you describe occurs the flame sensor has failed. It does not sense a flame and as a by design fail safe shut off the gas safety valve.

However... if the burner never does light then there is another fail safe in that being an automatic shut off of the dryer when the burner does not light at all on units with electronic timer controls.

A weak gas valve coil can also cause an early shut down. I.e they are powered, open the gas valve but, can't keep it open.

If there is no airflow... i.e the blower fan hub has failed and it is not turning the burner flame will cause the high limit thermostat to trip. After about 5 minutes you would be able to restart the dryer only to have the whole evolution repeat.

You did not mention a make or model number so it is difficult to go into details on exactly what to do to rectify your dryers' shutting down problem.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

No heat while drying

If this is a gas dryer. It's possible that the solenoid gas valve has gone bad. One way to determine this is by do a dry cycle and listen to the gas and flame to start. It shoudl sound like a flame starting on a regular stove top. Once the flame starts you can hear the flame. If the flame stops in less than a minute that is an indication that the gas valves has switched off. You need to have the solenoid valve replaced.

Have had a repair man out 3 times. Replaced igniter and gas regulator. Dryer will heat for a few minutes then stop heating. When I try to turn it back on, it will not turn on at all for about 10 minutes.

Are you saying the dryer will not start again after a few minutes? That is a motor [problem. Replace motor.
Are you saying dryer starts after a few minutes but will not heat? That is an air flow problem or a gas valve coil problem. Thoroughly clean EVERY single air passage in the dryer and vent tube. If that does not cure it, then replace gas valve coils if the igniter comes on and off.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

My new Perfect Care Gas dryer stops with in a minute of running.

Check your thermo coupler (flame sensor). If it's new it should have a warranty I would think.

Maytag gas dryer will heat for about one minute

The gas coils on the gas valve have gone bad. These are located on the gas valve and will be 2 solenoids. Replace them both and should be able to get as a set. 12001349 should be the number and cost less than 60.00 for the set. Good luck and thank you for using Fix Ya.
