Assuming that you still have the same Operating System (Windows XP) that came with the notebook, it does not have an alarm clock. Although you can download one from the following link:

Note: You will need to keep your notebook switched on the whole time in order for the alarm to work.
From your brief description, it seems that your hardware is starting correctly, and then it tries to load Windows. Windows then fails to load fully, and so Windows forces the computer to restart.
So, turn the computer on.
Immediately press F8 (again and again) until a "start-up" menu is displayed. Select "Safe Mode" and see if Windows will start.
If it does, use the "System Restore" application within "System Tools" within "Accessories" to go "back-in-time" to a date/time when your computer *was* working correctly. Restore to that date/time.
try to run system restore first remember the last date that your acer aspire 5100 works properly and if the same problem coming reinstall your operating system this 100% will correct solve your problem.
yes it has a cmos battery, inside you would have to disassemble it to replace it.if you have never taken a laptop apart the i'd recommend a service center.you can do a lot of damage if not familar with the disassembly and reassembly process.
do you have the restore cd? Using a restore cd would remove your files but it would fix the problem.
if you can get your hands on a windows installation disk, for the version you are using. You could perform a repair installation, it would also fix the problem and you would get to keep the files.
a pc tech might be able to fix the problem without reinstalling windows but that would require you to take the laptop to someone.
if the clock is consistently being resetted then most likely you have a failing cmos battery. you need to dismantle the laptop in order to have access to the cmos battery. you need to fina a COIN type battery.
Is your laptop still under warranty? I would go to the manufacturer first if it is. If not: the system clock is run by the CMOS battery. When low will cause a host of problems. Change it and let me know if this fixes your problem.
1 Ensure all Data is backed up, all data will be deleted. 2 Restart machine 3 When your unit switches back on hold down alt & tap f10 repeatedly...(on Acer icon) 4 Please wait a moment until prompted, -How would you like to restore?- 5 Please select –Restore system to factory default- 6 Enter your defined password or enter six zeros ‘000000’ 7 Click ok 8 Please wait until process completed, this will take 45min – 1hour
If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run.
When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode.
Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots.
Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
