How to clean canonscan 4200F glass? - Canon CanoScan 4200F Flatbed Scanner

I solved the problem by just buying an Epson Printer scanner for 75 dollars....

This is a TOUGH problem. You must dismantle the scanner. ( it is basically glued and melted together ). or send it in for repair. I was able to do this for an HP, but its reletivly large, and was screwed together.

How on earth did the underside of the glass get dirty?

Ok, never mind that... in the end, it's NOT worth it. In the old days, you could have since scanners were as big as printers are today... but now they are definitely NOT designed for the consumer to service. The scanner is designed for accuracy, even if you were to get it all apart, the odds that you maintain the precision and integrity of the bulb, the track on which the bulb moves, etc, are very slim.

Suggestion... How is the printer you have holding up? If it's getting on in age, it may be a wise investment to purchase a dual scanner/printer (as long as you are spending the money).

Do a system restore it will move your system back to a time before you had driver problems. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore. Follow the wizard and restore your computer to an earlier date before you had driver problems..let me know if you have any questions.

you scanner has no replaceable parts in them its sounds like a board issue.
you could try to take it apart and clean the optics but i would be thinking more of a board issue

i wonder if you would mind copying me the install cd for the 4200f
as i have had a computer crash, and have mislaid my software. i have tried downloading from the canon site but that does not open correctly.i will repay you for the disc plus postage.

when scanning photos and especially magazines, don't go to low on the dpi (at least 300) and select DESCREEN as well as grain correction: HIGH

check the lenght of the cable

if you are able to open the cover of scanner glass then pls clean the glass and see.
