Cant open Excel files. Not even from emails with Excel attached

Windows 7. Any time I try to open an existing excel file the dialog box reads "There was a problem sending the command to the program." I am able to open a new, blank excel but once I use it and close it, i cannot re open it. The same if I open an excel attachment from an email. I am able to upload these files onto a google doc but it does not upload correctly. I am not sure but am wondering if this problem started after I made some google docs from previous excel files. I have tried several of those on line fix its that scans your files then fixes them for a fee. I am not going to put any more money into this because nothing is getting fixed.
Anyone, Please Help. Thanks, K

Hi,
either your MS Office Installation is currupt or your system in infected with a virus.
Please scan your system using a good virus scanner. (Please uninstall any prior scanner if you have and pl avoid using McAfee for the time being).

Now open your excel go to Office button
Office Button --> Excel Options --> Resources --> Diagnose
if problem comes during diagnosis, please connect your system to internet and if fails, please reinstall office again.

Good Luck

Excel table link in word

Excel and Word are two parts of the Microsoft Office Suite that have become standards tools for spreadsheets and word processing.
Among their features are the ability to easily exchange information.
For example, you can easily copy a cell or part of a spreadsheet from an Excel and paste it into a Word document, which preserves all the formatting.
This method requires opening up both programs at the same time.
To avoid this, you can insert an Excel file from within Word itself.

Choose the "Insert" tab inside Microsoft Word to display the Object dialog box.
Click the "Create from File" tab and Browse to display the Browse dialog box.
Navigate to the Excel file that you need and double-click to load its name into the File Name box of the Object dialog box.

Click a checkmark into the "Link to File" box if you want the table that you insert to be automatically updated anytime the original file is changed.
Otherwise, leave it blank if you don't want the inserted information to be affected by the original file.

Click "OK" to insert the Excel file as a frame into the document.
Note how only filled cells from the first table (worksheet) of the file are inserted.
Blank cells are not inserted. You can resize the frame by clicking it and dragging the handles that appear.
You can also click it and drag it to a different line within the document.

Please download the attachment from the E-mail and then open the downloaded file, if the issue persists. Please uninstall and re-install the Microsoft Office. If you are worried about purchasing Microsoft Office, you can download and install the Open Source freely available OpenOffice which can be used to read and write Microsoft Documents like Word, Excel...etc from the below link :

How to protect MS Excel file using password?

In Microsoft Excel, you can protect a single cell, group of cells on a worksheet or an entire workbook by applying password so that unauthorized person can not display as well as modify your document. You can apply two types of password.
Password to open the document:
If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to open the workbook. Otherwise you cannot open the workbook.
Password to modify the document:
If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to modify the workbook. Otherwise your workbook is opened but you cannot modify the workbook. It means that your workbook becomes read-only.
To apply a password to MS Excel document, follow the given steps:
First click on "Tools" menu and select the "Option" from drop down menu.
A windows dialog box will appear, here select the "Security" tab.
Enter first password in "Password to open" text box under "File encryption settings for this workbook" section and second password in "Password to modify" text box (if required) under" File sharing settings for the workbook" section then click "Ok" button of dialog box.
Microsoft Excel will open "Confirm Password" dialog box for the confirmation of passwords. The maximum length of password is 15 characters.
Re-enter the password to open and password to modify and click "Ok" button of Confirm Password dialog boxes one by one.
Now close the file and then reopen to test the password.
