what if the device goes straight to loading maps then the "do you really want to erase all data" screen comes on but it won't respond to your touch screen answer "yes"?

Try resetting the unit and also charge it using only the wall charger overnight. Here's how to reset -it just puts everything back to factory settings - 1- Turn unit on WHILE HOLDING your thumb in the lower right corner as shown in picture. 2-Select YES PLEASE Take the time to vote me up this is my only reward for trying to help. Thanks

For the 1390:

  1. If the device is already connected to the computer, press and hold the power button to restart the device. If the device is disconnected from the computer, start with the device off and press and hold to power on.

  2. While the device is booting up, press and hold the upper-left corner of the screen for 30 seconds.

If the device is already plugged into the USB, your computer may indicate that it has recognized the device is plugged in. At that point, release the screen.

If the device is unplugged, the calibration screen may display. Now, plug the device into the computer's USB port. A green status bar will start loading as the device prepares to connect to the computer.

  3. Once the status bar indicates full scale, the computer symbol will show on the device's screen indicating that it is ready to connect to the computer. If you are not already plugged into the computer, then plug the device in via USB cable. This should enable recognition between the computer and the device.
From here you should be able to access the Garmin device, properly recognized by your computer as a GPS device. You will also be able to use the Communicator plugin on the Garmin site or the Webupdater software.

Garmin nuvi 1390t won't read or recognize microsd

The 1390t works with microSD cards. Your 8GB card is actually a microSDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it will not work in older devices.
You need to go with microSD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Does your Garmin Nuvi 1390 GPS get stuck or freeze at startup, or when loading maps?

Looking to reflash the firmware / system software for your Garmin GPS device?

Replacing the brains of your Garmin GPS is the surest way to resolve freezing, hanging, and erratic behavior. Keeping the system software and firmware in your Garmin GPS current and up-to-date is also the best way to keep it performing well.

Your GPS may not start properly at all, and display a 'System Software Missing" message. This tip will describe how to restore your Garmin Nuvi GPS system software using Garmin Webupdater.

ce00fb3.jpg

  1. The first step is to download the WebUpdater software.
  2. Plug in your Nuvi GPS into your PC with the USB cord.
  3. Run the WebUpdater program to install it to your computer and update the system software of your GPS.

Your Garmin Nuvi should now be running as good as new.

I hope that helps.

Microsd card won't read

You need to use a microSD card, not a microSDHC card. microSD cards max out at 2GB, anything larger is a microSDHC.

I have a Garmin 1300 series. It has stopped charging. i have tried charging it in the car and indoors but still no success. it is less than a year old. any suggestions?

The batteries in these devices tend to last several years under "normal" conditions of use.

If the unit is less than a year old, it should be covered under the Garmin's warranty. Gather your proof of purchase (sales slip, etc.) and contact Garmin Customer Support. They'll solve the problem for you most likely by sending you a newly factory overhauled 1390T. This means you won't get YOUR GPS back - but rather a different one. Be sure to back up and remove any personally identifiable info on your GPS before sending it to Garmin. Your replacement 1390T will have the latest maps installed on it already. Simply register it like you did with the first one on their site and you're done!

I hope this helps & good luck!

How do I restore the qwerty keyboard to my 1390T?

Contact Garmin at https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/escalateForm.htm . They will send you a zip file with the complete keyboards folder and directions to restore to your unit. Mine was missing altogether after I lost the maps too. It was easy to copy to the gps unit and now the qwerty keyboard is back again.

My husbands garmine nuvi 1390 is stuck on the loading maps screen. We have tried shutting it down but it stays on the map screen

PRobably needs a firmware restore. Go to Garmin Reset. If it fails you need a new logic board. If they don't give you a new one under warranty, are third party Garmin repair services that will fix it for cheap. Also, I found an DYI GPS repair guide,so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult.
