In attempting to unsuccessfully download maps on Garmin for a NUVI 255W, I am now receiving an error screen on my Garmin: No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them. I have reported the issue to Garmin and they did provide a new download but the error message will not go away and I am unable to use the Garmin. Please advice.

Yes and you may be able to download a map for free , if the unit has never been registered with Garmin.

The Nuvi 2xxW series has a limited internal memory and the latest maps are fairly large in size and may not fit on the units internal memory. The map may have to go on an SD card.

The no detailed maps warning would have come up on the screen at the store as well.

To update your nuvi, all you need to do is to connect your nuvi to an internet connected computer and the updates will show on the lower left of your computers screen, click on it and it will update it with the latest software version and maps.
You can also go to your nuvis website and search for latest updates. Just click on the map link and a list will pop up under the map link, select update maps if it is maps you want to update. It will ask you to choose your device from a list, after choosing your nuvi 255w then it will show you the latest maps for your gps, but you have to install its plug ins first.

The simple way is to send the unit to Garmin they will load the maps for free.
If you keep trying - try this -

With your thumb in the lower right corner of the screen - pushing in - like there is an X there - [ push with your thumb before you turn it on] Turn it on -
when this screen comes up - push YES -

then try your maps.
If they do not load on your pc [ which must have the unit hooked up and a legit copy of the newest maps ] then send the unit to Garmin. They will load your maps for you FREE.

You need to connect your GPS to your computer and reinstall the basic operating system from the Garmin site.

tap the screen and it will move it in for more detail or less - if you have a + sign on the right side of the screen you can also press that.

sounds like the map folder in the gps software got corrupted. you will have to connect your device to your computer, get on the Garmin website, and let the garmin site update your device. Once updated, it will re-install the correct folders and maps to their proper place. the gps should work as before after that.
