The "sender's" fax machine is attempting to RECEIVE a fax. This happens because they don't have the document fully inserted into the scanner before dialing. (According to HP's error code listing for "comm error 242" - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=buu02549) This is not a problem of a bad connection. Bad line condition codes are 223, 224 and most of the codes starting with 23.

SOURCE: incoming Fax Error

Maybe depends on poor phone connection from this sender, caused by bad line or a transmitt problems. In faxsettings All fax, change "error correction" to off and "V34" faxspeed to slow, this will help.

SOURCE: comm errors

The fax machine needs to be reset. Simply shut off the machine, wait one minute, and turn on machine & fax. If turning off the machine does not clear your machine then you have to unplug the machine & follow the same procedures. Worked for me.

SOURCE: We are having lots of problems receiving faxes.

There is a big chance this is a line problem, contact your phone line company before trying to fix or replace your Fax modem on the MFP.

Good Luck

Have voip and brother mfc 7420. error code 2001 and 2006

Get a new phone wire. Put a phone on the line and listen for static. Too many phones on one line will cause problems. If the phone line is going thru a surge protector, check the quality of the sound with it and without it, it may be damaged. Keep power wires away from phone wires, they cause static.

Brother FAX 8360P comm.error

It could be line noise on the phone.., which allows phones to work ok, but causes problems with faxes. See this document from the brother website concerning comm.error:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/ca/en/faq/faq/000000/000100/000067/faq000167_000.html?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=fax2800_us&Cat=11

Would recommend having the phone company run a line check to make sure the phone line is clean of interference !
