Only sound and No picture in Toshiba DVD/VCR combo

I have a SD-V392SU DVD/VCR combo, serial no. AD14269096 A , which I purchased from Costco. I have shifted residence and tried to reconnect the player. I have a 3 pin( Yellow,White, Red) cable and a S Video cable from from player output to my TV input. Albeit the DVD player functions well, the VCR pays ONLY the sound and there is NO picture.

Hello,

maybe your connections are wrong.

The yellow pin is for video, while the white and red pin are for audio left and right.

So, your wires will be connected to video and audio "OUT" from your player and connected to "IN" respectively on your TV.

That's how it gos. Its a input and output law. The Player will be sending out the pictures and sounds (OUT) and the TV will be receiving from the other end (IN).

Its as simple is that. But if there is still no picture, then cross check your video wire (yellow), maybe its bad.

Good luck.

Toshiba modelsd v392su dvd sound and picure perfect vcr SOUND GREAT NO PICTURE and I have done all that is needed to review all inputs to make sure thye are in and i know they are in the proper...

DVD produces a great picture with sound - but the VCR is not producing a picture? is it snowy? or a black screen? if it is a black screen, the video output from the VCR is possibly faulty, this is not economical to repair. If it is just snow, and there is slight evidence of a playback picture from your tapes, try cleaning the video heads with a head cleaning cassette (available from eBay and electronics stores as a discontinued stock item).

Since Hi-Fi VCRs have the left and right stereo track on their head drums, and this drum becomes worn or dirty, the sound deteriorates along with the picture - mono sound usually with lots of snow.

This is a combo unit - it has a VCR/DVD common output section on the rear - allowing DVD and VCR pictures to be viewed when the respective drive is selected. When you checked your input connection, did you check the rear of the unit? you may have connected 'DVD priority out' instead of the VCR/DVD common out. If you did connect the common out, and still have no VCR picture, try the head cleaning suggestion as above. If that fails, consider replacing the unit as a last resort.

I am offering this suggestion 'gratis' - free of charge.

Hi Jeff,

No you can't i'm affraid you can only record using the VHS the DVD is a player only. A manual does exist for it, well it's listed as a Toshiba SD-V392 SU. I do have a PDF copy or you can download it from http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/TOSHIBA/SD-V392SU-_E you just need to click this link then click on the PDF icon (file size is 4.6 meg) just for info the PDF file is virus free i've checked. Toshiba SDV398 DVD & VCR Combo Poor recorded picture VCR - very fuzzy. Old, old (12yrs.) RCA VCR much better picture Is there anything that can be done to improve picture or should I just return it??

My solultion is described below: (i.e. return it)

This machine is a piece for crap. I bought it in March of 2010 from Costco. The programming methodology is crappy compared to my old Sanyo. I sent it in for repair when it would no longer accept programming instructions for a timed tape recording. i.e. it just kicked into DVD mode when I hit the final programming button and the tape started to 'run' while the DVD screen presented itself. They sent me a new one and after running into the identical problems as the first unit, I returned it to Costco for a refund. Toshiba (made in China) never again.

We recently purchased a toshiba recorder/vcr combo d-vr610 and it plays dvd's with no problem but we tried to watch a video and we couldn't get a picture. I can't find the manual to see what I need to do....

The DVD will play through component, composite, or HDMI, but you have to hook the VCR up separately with component cables - look at the back of the combo, you'll see where it says "VCR". That's where the cables have to go. Pretty silly, but I had the same problem, and this is the only solution I could come up with.
