I have an M-Audio Firewire 1814 box & have installed according to instructions but when I reboot the Mac (OSX 10.6) I get an error message saying the permissions are wrong. I can't see how to fix this. Also I tired to uninstall the M-Audio software

Hi fluentmusic I'm not sure if they have drivers for Snow Leopard but you can download the BETA drivers and see if it works. Click on the link.

The guide fro properly connecting your microphone is here
GarageBand 11 Connect microphone

The problem is with OSX and its usb bus and not your settings or your usb device.

The solution to your problem is to use a firewire soundcard. That way it will use the firewire bus and all should be fine.

Problem: Rosetta Stone msg: 1117 error occurred in the speech component operating system: Mac OSX Hi, I Have Rosseta Stone installed on my macbook pro (osx) and have/used it over a week now....

Try my steps:-
1.If you know removing installed programs from MAC, then please remove this application named-Rosetta Stone.
2. Now, remove all the cables & wires if your hardware audio device & turn off your computer.
3. Reconnect all the cables & wires & start your computer.
4. This time, reinstall the audio driver.

If this doesn't work, then you may try these ones:-
METHOD 1: Perform Step 1 to 3 again & install a different audio driver instead of Rosetta Stone.

METHOD 2: (This is only if METHOD 1 is also not working) Try your mic in any other MAC by installing Rosetta Stone in that system.

Note: You may search for a different audio driver at http://www.download.cnet.com/. Here search in mac column.

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.4 & an HP Deskjet HP 4480 Printer. The printer works fine for copying and for printing from the computer, but, when I try to scan something into the computer, everything works...

I had the same problem, found out that you should not install the disk that came with the printer. If you do it won't scan. The drivers are already in Mac OSX. You have to uninstall whatever you installed...throw the disk away. To scan go to System Preferences, click printer, then scanner button and it works. Hope this helps!

Installing OSX 4 with external DVD writer

You're in luck if you have another mac because you can now use it's drive to install from. Connect the computers together using a firewire cable then restart the mac with the broken drive holding down the T key at the bong until a firewire symbol appears on screen. The other mac can now see it and can install the software to it as an external drive.

Otherwise you would need a firewire cd drive or USB to Firewire adaptor for your cd drive. If you get one of those you hold the alt key while rebooting and this will display a list of bootable devices.

On the latest OSX disks it has a folder for network cd/dvd access for intallation but again you need another mac to mac use of it.

All the Best

Imac / illustrator10

According to something I read in another forum:
Use migration assistant (in utilities) to copy over Illustrator 10 via firewire from your G4 to your imac. This is the only thing that might work without upgrading to a newer version of Illustrator.

I'm planning on trying it with both Illustrator 10 and Indesign 2.0 - Photoshop 7 won't go at all no matter what one tries according to what I've read. I'll be upgrading to CS3 for Photoshop. No choice.

Saying disk not readable

you could try a repartition / reformat, if the drive is detected at all, or you could try running scandisk/disktools, to try and recover / repair the TOC/ FAT

M-audio firewire solo

I just bought the Firewire Solo and had the same issue with my MacBook. I have OSX 10.5.6. The drivers that came on the CD were for earlier OSX version. If you go to M-Audio's website (www.m-audio.com) and then click on Support. Go to to drivers & updates, search by the criteria they give you for your specific system and then download. Although they don't currently have an updated version for 10.5.6, I downloaded 10.5.5 and it seems to be working, although I'm running into an audio input problem when hooking up mic and guitar....no sound. I'm thinking I'll just have to wait until M-Audio comes out for an updated version for 10.5.6. Hope this helps.
