I have used the same BA735 (originally from a Gateway computer) on my HP (6 years old until only last week when the computer's power broke). Before that the BA 735 worked well with the Sound card in the HP was a Creative Labs Audigy running under Win XP (originally from a Gateway).
The male plug to the BA 735 appears to have only a mono connection (2 segments on the exposed pin) unlike later stereo systems with 3 segments. How the 2 segment plug gives stereo I have no idea but it sounded OK to me.
Now here's the problem.. new sound cards all seem to have stereo output requiring a 3 segment male pin while the cable supplied with the BA735 is 2 segment (as I said before) and the connection to the woofer seems to be a non-standard RCA look but different diameter.
So if you have a newer card I don't know if there is a jack that will conver the existing jack to allow it to plug in AND will it work?
If it does please post back here.

From the Boston Digital website: "The BA735 is a digital capable 3 piece speakerset sold exclusively by
Gateway with their systems. The digital SPDIF interface connects to
Gateway's digital sound system."
Sounds like it's only made for that Gateway system.

Assuming you are using digital BA735.
Dell laptops come with a proprietery s-video dongle. It gives you a digital output which can go into the BA735 speakers.
I use one set of BA735 with two computers. Computer A sends digital out
and Computer B sends analog. BA735 plays both. I listen to music using
digital while the analog from the other computer alerts me to the
incoming messages in Pidgin.
I did have to change bios settings on one computer to use the on-board audio.
To enable digital output in XP, click on the speaker icon > Advanced
> Select Enable SPDIF. You can leave the PC Spk Mute unchecked if
you want the analog output as well. That's all.
I hope you are able to enjoy the rich sound of BA735. It's beautiful.
My ears thank a lot for replacing those desktop speakers. BA735 hardly
takes up any space . Two small speakers are perched on the hutch and
the bass module is somewhere behind the desk, completely invisible.

Your sound card must have a digital output plug, which is generally yellow and says DIGITAL OUT. As far as I know its not digital-out with software but digital-out with hardware only. Find a picture of a SoundBlaster Live model number ct4780 and see that it has 5 plugs plus a joystick connection. On this particular card the yellow is the DIGITAL OUT plug.

It’s your sound card, not your OS. You can try selecting the digital output for your sound card and it may work. Mine didn’t with an integrated NVIDIA nforce card. The BA 735 was put out by Gateway with a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live card. If you still have your old computer, install the old sound card on your new computer, update the drivers, and it will work (ensure digital output is selected). If you don’t have the card, go to ebay and purchase a Sound Blaster CT 4870 sound card ($4-$15). Once installed and rebooted, go to: Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, on Volume tab select Advanced, under Play Control select Advanced, Ensure Digital Output only is selected. You may need to restart and your speakers will be working!
