SOURCE: will this give me 400 watts on each

bignatedabal: You can't get something more out of a device than it's rating. In other words, if you have a 400W amp that's all it's going to produce. For example if you're looking to drive both sub spkrs @ 350W each then buy a sub amp with a rating of 700W @ 2ohms & connect your 4ohm spkrs in parallel to the amp. Each spkr will produce 350W of sound if everything is installed correctly.

1 thing to look for in amp mfg's. Look for those who rate their amps in RMS power. This is the true output rating. Many amps are rated in peak-to-peak which seems great but doesn't tell you the real story, unless you know how to do the math to determine the RMS. The better mfg's will take the time to test their amps & rate them properly. Also look for massive heatsinking (the cooling fins). I consider cooling fans to be a benefit as well.

Getting my son a sony xplod xm-1652 2 channel what subs would sound good and the things says 1000x2 and 500x2 what is the truth

165 watts x 2 @ 4ohms and 200-230 watts@ 2 ohms or 400-460 watts bridged into a 4 ohm mono load is what the amp will actually do. A single 12 inch sub or a pair of 10 inch subs or 12s would be great

Amp turns off.

your drawing/pulling too many amps. Is it a mono(one speaker), two way(two speakers/can be briged to one), or a four way(four speakers/can be brigrd to two). don't put too many speaker to that one amp if it's only a mono, or a two way.

I have this same problem

Check the power with a volt meter. The battery power, then the remote power. Also make sure it's grounded properly. bad grounds cause mayhem.

Can i run 1 10 inch sub of the stock amp that

Not made for that. Its a high pass amp to power the speakers, unless you have a stock sub, but its still going to be to weak to get full potential out of the sub.

Problem when hooking two 12 inch subs to one amp

the amp is no where near strong enough that sound you hear is called hard clipping and it will destroy your subs in minutes. depending on what model JL subs you have I can sell you a better amp.
