When power is applied, whether remotely or directly to the main unit, the motor pulses on and off. The unit is about four years old. Any suggestions?
There are several possibilities here, its possible the low voltage relay is bad, possible that the carbons on your motor are worn, or may even be a thermal sensor in your unit shutting it down, ive even seen improper assembly of motor which cause wires to be pinched and have shorts in them from the manufacture, course always check your power cord to the wall and test your outlet with some other appliance.as you can see several possiblities, most of which unless your knowledgeable in electricity i wound not atttempt on my own. highley reccomend taking to a vacuum cleaner shop to have checked out at least, they may even be able to sell you the part to fix it yourself
I had this issue with my Hayden 6000. There is a circuit board on this (and others) that controls the relay that supplies 120vac to the motor. The circuit board is obsolete but can be replaced with a generic. This is a common problem with the board. I trouble shot the failure to a capacitor (C5) on the board. If you can solder it is replaceable. The capacitor is a 220uf 50V electrolytic. My bad capacitor read about 60uf, well out of specs. With the new 50 cent capacitor installed it runs like new.
