Take a flash light and point it at the screen now if you see something on the screen you got a bad backlight and that will need to be replaced. Its a light in back of your LCD that shines threw the LCD display so you can see what is going on. Try that let me know ether way. Also leave feedback and ratings for your free answer today.

Dell laptop is very hot

It sounds like you might need to open it up and clean out the insides.
If there is a build up of dust inside then the hot air will not be able to escape. If it overheats it will turn itself off.

Screen too large for pc

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the drop down list.
Left-click on the Settings tab.

Under the subheading Screen resolution in the middle, does it state
1400 x 1050?
That is the native screen resolution.

If not;

1) The down arrow with the green tip, and green 'cap', is a Slider.
Left-click on it, and hold the left mouse button down.
Now slide it to the left, or right, until 1400 x 1050 appears.

2) Also;
The Color quality to the right is supposed to state -
Highest (32-bit)

If not click on the blue down arrow to the right, and in the drop down list click on -> Highest (32-bit)

Go to the bottom right, and click on Apply.
Now go to the bottom right, and click on OK.
A small window may come up, and state that these settings will take effect, unless you do not want them to.

You want them to. Do nothing, allow the countdown.

My dell latitude c510/c610 failing

Sounds like the fan may be failing and need replacement. On a system that age, it is debatable whether it is worth fixing.
You can boot to he resource cd and run fan diags is you want to try and confirm

Fans can be found on EBay

Led power & hard disk led on for few sec,no display, switch off

hi,

can you please be more specific?

i had a c640 with the same issue..
the cause was a power short to the cpu..
wich meant the cpu didn't get power..
the metal base under the board gave the board to much presure
the metal base was bent
as soon as i took of the fan he started normal..
so what uou can do:
take the fan off , and try to power up..
just a few seconds..

also the cdrom or flop can cause a short, maybe you can try that first..take them out and power up

Loooong boot up issue on Dell Latitude C610.

Did you buy this from an individual? The computer is no speed demon at 1-GHz/733-MHz Pentium III-M CPU, 256MB of SDRAM, 512KB L2 cache, however it should not take 18 minutes to boot.

If I were in your shoes I would reformat and reinstall the OS and start over, especially if you got this from an individual.

The boot time should greatly improve! I think it is loaded down with the bloat of **** the last person had on it.

If you do not want to reformat, here are some tips, and programs to run to increase performance.

go to start - run - type msconfig hit enter,
startup tab uncheck everything not needed at startup time.

www.ccleaner.com - get it and run it on the laptop, clean it out. Make sure you run the registry cleaner too!

Make sure you run a good online virus scan! like trend micro house call.

That should speed it up a little if you cannot reformat it and start over.
