SOURCE: Pioneer Purevision PDP-4340HD will not shoe close caption for cable TV

Hi rafaelvh,
If you see the manual.
(go here if you dont have it)
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000060450.pdf
You can see on page 14 that it talks about the close caption.
"Not all programs offer the Closed Caption option. Please refer to the [CC] symbol to ensure the caption option is available."

It can also be caused if the broadcast source is poor, or the signal is weak.

SOURCE: Pioneer PDP-4340HD and 1080p

Features of Pioneer PDP-4340HD Unique among today's HDTVs, the Pioneer PDP-4340HD runs on a 72Hz vertical refresh rate. That's an exact multiple of the 24 frames per second at which films are displayed, enabling the panel to use a video-processing technique called 3:3 pull-down (instead of the 2:3 pull-down used in previous 60Hz displays). In English, that means you should see a more stable picture when viewing DVD movies and other video material that was originally shot on film. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the case in our tests (see Performance for more).

This panel shares with its like-size, similarly priced competition a 1,024x768 native resolution. That number of pixels bests less expensive 852x480 EDTV models and results in sharper high-def images (but not in sharper DVD or standard TV images). Even a count of 1,024x768 pixels can't display 720p, the lowest high-def resolution, in full detail, but it's as high as plasmas get in this screen-size range.

I don't have a direct solution but I am having the same problem when connecting (1) my Apple TV (2) my Blu-Ray player, etc. via HDMI. I also have a digital camera that puts out HDMI, and when I hook it up, I get the same story -- video only, no sound through the optical digital output of the TV receiver.

I am guessing that the HDMI inputs were an afterthought on this model, especially since the printed manual doesn't even show or mention the HDMI inputs at all! So my guess is that the TV's receiver does not convert the sound from the HDMI to the optical digital output. It does, however, send the amplified HDMI sound to the stereo speaker outputs on the monitor. It appears that only the digital tuner's 5.1 sound comes out on the optical digital output.

This is what I have observed, for what it's worth.

Hi,

You must have a DVI to HDMI adapter cable to connect your Bose to your TV through HDMI port.

Screen says: Caution, no input.

What kind of cable is this? Component, Composite, HDMI? Try a different cable. Also, ensure you have the cable properly connected and that the TV is on the right input setting.

Pioneer PDP-4340HD TV Media Receiver installation

With the cable splitter problem, I believe they used that idea to use the Antenna/cable A & B ports to watch digital and anolog TV.
Port A for Anolog and port B for Digital.
