It sounds like a stuck button on the TV. Probably a channel button. Try tapping on each button to get it to stop. If it does, then use the remote from now on. If I was repairing the set here at my TV shop I would open the set, turn it on, and unplug the buttons while it is running. If it stoped changing channels then I have the proof that it is the buttons causing the problem. If it did not stop with buttons unplugged then the tv would need a circuit board. The Brand and model number posted would let me look at the schematic.

Is it going one way - channel 1-2-3-4-5 bottom to up or any way at random. Find out which way and check the channel button on the TV to see if it is stuck.
Come on, lets try to solve this. Take the batteries out of the remote so it can't interfere and try changing the channels and volume with the buttons on the tv. If this works then someone has spillled something onto the remote and gummed it all out. You simply need to take the remote apart and clean it out. If the buttons on the tv do th same as the remote did then yes, take it back.
I have a rh 265 remote and lg tv. It stopped controlling the tv. I hold the tv power button down on remote then pushed 1 at the same time. It reset it to work with my tv.
