How do I run a firmware update to a canon mx310

you need to uninstall it and use the firmware update on canon website to update the printer and then install the driver again

Try firmware upgrade, and if your using this on a network, make sure you have print sharing enabled.

You don't need the CD, just go to this site: Driver Update and use their software to update your driver.

I should imagine the firmware has stored incorrectly onto the IC chip (memory) within the printer, it is normally possible to just replace this chip, and then reinstall the firmware onto a blank chip, or contact CANON and ask them if yuu can be a pre programmed chip for your specific printer, hope this helps

Did you update your computer with the latest drivers and firmware for Vista?

Are you sure the phone cable is in the right jack? Look for the icons beside the 2 jacks - the one that looks like a phone connects to the phone. You should also apply Canon's firware update at http://www.canon.com and search for fumx310swin1040en.exe if you have Windows or for an iMac the file is MX310 series Firmware Upgrade Utility Ver. 1.040 (Mac OS X) with a file name of fumx310sosx1040en.dmg

Too bad Canon can't be bothered to email it's registered users to notify them that the machine they sold us was shipped with defective firmware and attach the fix to the message to save us from hunting for the solution.
