It looks as though it took a hard fall or had some weight set on it. Check if your warranty is up and if it is you'll have to take it to a cell phone repair shop and they can most likely replace the screen for you.
Indeed there is a recourse. Contact the Better Business Bureau with a cc. to Heartland and you just may see some very speedy action on your behalf. It is even possible that the BBB itself sends a cc to companies they receive complaints about.
I am not sure about prices in US, but over here in England we charge £15 - £25 for mineral glass (depending on size, thickness, e.t.c.) and £50 - £120 for sapphire glass. As for today: £1 = 1.60$. Doesn't matter how you name it - glass or crystal, both are right.
If it is it will be the first I've heard of one shattering... The CW spins at 7200 rpms and at that speed anything is possible. What color is the glass?? Clear and it's not the CW..
