A lot of watch manufacturers use the American style date layout of Month/Day/Year. Try this. Looking at the watch press and hold the bottom right SIDE button for 3 seconds. It should enter setting mode where the seconds display will flash. Press the Right FACE button once. It should switch to the Hour display flashing. Press the same button again to go to minutes and them again to go to the date display.
Repeated pressing of the top Right SIDE button changes the numbers upwards, (1,2,3,4), and the Left FACE button changes the numbers downwards, (4,3,2,1). Press the Bottom right SIDE button once to finish and go back to the normal display.

The notch has two positions. when you pull it out completely that is the time adjustment. Now when you pull it just slightly that will be the date setting. Turning it clockwise will change the day and counter clock wise changes the date number. Hope that helps.
I got my watch from a third party w/ out manual cause it was cheaper. Took me awhile to figure out.
mcdevito75 here, The stem has 2 positions, Carefully slip a fingernail under the stem and lift, it may take a few trys to get used to it, in this first position you should be able to set the DATE very easily and Maybe the DAY of the wwek also, turn the stem 1 way to change the DATE and the other way For the DAY of the week., Let"s figure you can only set the DATE in this first position, First thig to do is set the DAY of the week, go thru the watches 24 hour cycle and set the DAY to 1 DAY before the DAY you need, now in that first position of the stem, set the DATE to 1 DATE before the DATE you need, now in the 2nd position we all know pull the stem out to set the time of day, go thru the 24 hour cycle to bring up the DAY of the week and DATE you need. Now your watch is set and will change on tome at around mid-nite.
mcdevfito75 here"s how to change the day and date on your vintage Seiko watch, Pull the stem out to the set position and simply turn the stem (winder) every second time around to the 1--2 3 O"oClock position the day will chage, once you get the day push in the stem in all the way, NOW with your fingernail just under the stem (winder) gently lift the stem up to it"s first notch or position, with the stem at this first notch or position, you can turn the stem and the hands won"t move but the date(number) will change, simply go to the correct number / date and your done, push the stem back in a your ready to go.
When you pull the dial out, you can pull it out into two different settings. One will allow you to set the clock/time. The other will allow you to set the date (the day of the month). It took me a while to figure this out as well, even witht he manual.
Press and hold the Mode button - upper left. At first, it will display the stopwatch function. Keep holding until it goes to flashing alarm set mode. Once it starts flashing, release the button and then immediately press it again and release it (do not hold it the second time). Now you are in time set mode. You can change the time, starting with the seconds, by pressing Adjust - upper right. You can move to minutes, hours, day, and date by pressing Alarm - lower right. Pressing Mode again will exit the set function.
THE REAL SOLUTION: 1. Hold down (light/el/set--the top right button) for 2 seconds to enter real time setting mode. 2. Press Mode key (bottom left button) to skip around to the different setting items. 3. Press Reset (top left button) to lower a setting. 4. Press ST/SP (bottom right button) to advance a setting (like increasing the time). 5. The day of the week will show automatically if you were correct in setting the year, month, date, and local city.
