The filter is located at the intake vent of the internal fan, careful observation of the unit should reveal the location, this location should also be listed in your users manual and correct cleaning suggestions listed, user manuals can be downloaded from the net for free from the Panasonic web sight
I am very sorry to hear that you required a technician to come to your home and bill you a ridicules price to clean a simple filter that indeed should be a customer serviceable situation, it is possible that Panasonic has not yet made enough money to satisfy there needs, with all that said i hope you observed the sequence of events it took to alleviate this problem so this tragedy will never happen to you again
best wishes for the future and good luck

After taking apart most of the TV, we wound up calling a dealer since we still could not locate the filter...we were both amazed that air filter info was NOT listed anywhere in the user manual.
Dealer contacted Panasonic and got the details directly from them (as well as an updated manual). After an expensive sevice call, it wound up being something the typical user can not do since it required removal of the guts of the TV to get to the air filter. It may be (and should be!) easier on later models but not this one.
