Machine has no lights or power.

We bought Whirlpool Calypso in 12/2003. We had some problems on and off, but nothing major. Now, it is completely dead. There are no lights and no power. Nothing happens when you try to set or start. The wall outlet is not a problem. Any suggestions other than calling the service? Does anyone had this experience?

Our Whirlpool washer is GVW9959KQ0, bought in September 2001, in September 2010 it had the problem as follow. When the panel was lite up, it was always set at "44" minute, NORMAL wash, no touch area is responsive, not even STOP or START. I could turn off the panel completely by pressing STOP and "Whitest white" in sequence quickly. When the panel was shut off, I could turn on the panel again by just pressing "STOP"; But the panel was back to "44" minute, NORMAL wash. Unplugging the power did not help (see as follow). That was the washer life for a couple weeks. We left it w/o power for 24 hours, it worked again normally just for 1 wash, and it was back again to the zombie mode; left it again for 24 hours, no luck, left it again for 24 hours, worked again for just one wash. We managed to wash 3 loads during the 2-week period (just 1 wash per time). Since the washing functionality sounds and looks working well to me, I thought that the panel might be the culprit. Finally we ordered Control Panel Assembly (Parts AP3884746, it is just the panel part where we touch for washing selections w/o electronic boards behind it) at appliancepartspros.com (cost $178 regular S

Whirlpool calypso washer tub shakes and rattles

whirlpool , simpson , westinghouse are all in the same manufacture house
you problem sounds like the tub suspension rod air dampers have failed
replace these rods and the tub is more stable
at the bottom end where the rods go through the mounts is a plastic cylinder that has a moving piston and spring inside ' the tip section of the plastic breaks free and then there is no air dampening effect
you will have to remove the top of the machine to get to the upper ends to replace the rods
cosy for 4 rods is around $90.00 AUD and can be got from the service agent spares

We got the LD error code and then nothing. We have no lights no response from machine. Checked outlet and plug-there is power going to the machine.

Hi

An LD error indicates long drain time which means that there is either something stuck/clogged in the pump or the pump itself has gone bad and should be replaced. You can take it apart completely and check for impeller damage or clogs. You have to clean it completely so make sure that you have lot of towels ready as there will be water coming out of it when you clean the pump. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Whirlpool Calypso Machine - Thanks you for your Response Posting!

the class action lawsuit comprised of people who still owned their units and needed repair. what whirlpool would do is send a repair technician out on their own, they would get a list of parts for the washer and replace them when the parts came in. i own a calypso and my u joint went out and whirlpool repaired it free of charge over a 400.00 due bill to them. was just good that it never came out of my pocket. however ive since learned how to fix my unit. bt i havent had any issues with mine since the u joint and pump were replaced. i replaced the pump myself and other tuff rquired a special tool. im not sure if they are giving compensation on the washer but its worth a call to whirlpool.

Nothing works but I have power

I would unscrew the console and check the serial cable from the user panel to the ccu by unplugging and reconnecting then try again. If not the touch pad needs to be replaced.

Whirlpool Calypso - Will not start

You ever hear of dog years? Well Calypso follows those same guidelines. So your machine is 35 years old. These are the Edsel's of washing machine fame. I had a Calypso for 6 1/2 years. 3 pumps, numerous circuit boards, drive motors, phone calls and arguements with Whirlpool, along with machine downtime. I finally junked it and bought a Whirlpool Duet 9200 HT (get the made in Germany machine). A world of difference in wash quality. Fresh smelling unballed clean clothes. The Calypso was removed from the market and the subject of a class action lawsuit. Just Google it and start reading. Get comfortable first. There's a lot to read.
