Kenmore 70 Series Washer will not work in Spin Cycle. I repaired in January (replaced motor coupler and clutch guts). It worked but was noisy. It quit again last week. I took apart and all is in order. When I spin transmission in agitate it works, but will not work in spin mode. The Transmission works freely both ways, telling me that the clutch system is bad. Am I missing something here?

Thanks. The tranny is moving perfectly. I am thinking that the components in the arm are not set up right. The exploded view of the assembly is a little vague.

Have you checked the brake release arm or the basket drive tube assy ,,,,mine sheared off the t-post on the bottom of the basket drive tube and the brake release arm fell down breaking the 2 little pins on it,,thus not releasing the brake allowing it to spin!

Kenmore 70 Series Washing Machine Drains, But Won't Spin

Yes sir, a bad motor coupler could cause the machine not to spin. You did the right thing in checking out the lid switch and the pump first. It sounds as if the motor coupling is worn and may be slipping. I will attach a link to a video that may assist you. Hope this helps and best wishes.

80 series kenmore washing machine not spinning in spin cycle

You may either have a broken motor coupler (connects the motor to the transmission) or the clutch/brake assembly is slipping. To test the motor coupler start a cycle, if it fills and agitates, the coupler is ok.
You can check the clutch/brake by selecting the spin cycle, open the lid and press the lid switch down using a pen. When the motor starts check for either a very slow spin or give it a boost by pushing the inner drum clockwise and see if it picks up any speed. If it spins just a little, the clutch/ brake assembly is slipping and will need to be replaced.

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

When this machine is not spinning, the water should still be able to drain, as the motor drives the pump on the same shaft as the coupler for the tranny. Set to the spin setting and depress the lid switch, if the water still does not drain, you may have something stuck in your pump, which would also lock the motor shaft and not allow it to spin or agitate. If the water does drain, check the motor coupler, which is located between the motor and transmission, if broken, the motor will run but there is no drive to the transmission. Hope this helps...
