An came on by itself and won't cut off

I have a Ruud home a/c combination (heating & air). The heat & air was both turned off. The fan came on by itself and will not turn off with the switches. The only way to turn it off was with the circuit breaker. Help.

If your indoor unit is electric and not gas or oil, then your problem is either in the control wiring or a relay. With your circuit breaker OFF: Start by removing the wire on "G" at your control board. If you have an older model, there might be a wire nut connection for your thermostat wires.......disconnect the wire nut with the green wire which is the most commonly colored wire used to control the fan. Tape off the end of the wire to prevent it from shorting......turn the breaker on. If the blower continues to run, you have a problem with a relay. If the unit is heating while the fan is running, you most likely have a stuck heating sequencer. If there is no heat, you most likely have a stuck fan relay.

Here is a video to help you identify heat relays/sequencers and fan relays. Having a stuck fan/blower relay is a fairly common problem. Often, you can gently tap the relay to "free" it and stop the fan. However, once they start "sticking", they will continue to do so.
I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you, moving forward. :-)

Hi - I have a RUUD system, the heat won't come on

sounds like the "Fan/Limit" switch. It is to turn on the fan as the heat exchanger warms up. I believe it has failed. Check it out.

Hope this helps.

Ruud heat pump, acheiver, 14 years old. The heat seems to be on but the unit outside is frozen over and fan out there is not turning. The motor runs all the time. Is this okay?

In the heat mode the outside unit should have the fan running. In the defrost mode, the fan should not be running but in both cases, the compressor runs.

I have a ruud heat pump ac works fine when switch to heet compressor will not turn on

Your reversing valve is out. Or you have a electrical problem sending signal to the reversing valve. The valve switch from puting cooling in you home to putting heating in. You may need to call a tech you need special tools like a amp prob to look at the power. www.fastacservice.com

Ruud gas pack has stopped heating.

Could be a faulty thermostat, (referring to the furnace\heater. As far as the A.C., you must have a dual thermostat with a switch for A.C. and Heating. Is the thermostat digital or mercury bulb? As for the A.C. it sounds like it is going off on high discharge pressure. Is the cooling fan running that cools the condenser? It must be spinning freely or it may be starting and because it is partially seized, it will cut off with a high current draw. Anyways, the condenser must be clear of any debris, no shrubs around it. The compressor could be bad and trying to start but goes off on overload because it isn't starting. It's start capacitor could be bad and not giving it that extra boost on start up which is what a start capacitor does. Good luck.

Ruud Heat Pump blows room temp on Heat and AC setting

A "Heat-Pump" is also known as a reverse cycle air conditioner, this means on heat the outdoor unit acts like the indoor section and vice versa. So in all probability you need to have it leak checked and recharged.

Ruud gas pack has stopped heating.

Is it spark ignition or a glow coil? Sounds like the ignitor is busted. If it was a roll out switch the fan would stay on trying to cool off the switch.

Ruud heat pump question

Does the air handler take a minute or two to start, this would be normal so that it doesn't blow cool air into the house before the unit is warmed up. If not could be the fan relay is weak and needs replacing. As far as the outside unit it sounds like you need to check the refrigerant. In cooling they are 70/150 psi. This should be checked in cooling mode, once you turn it to heating mode the pressures switch bring heat inside the house instead of out. I hope this helps.
