We have a 14 year old side by side built in model # TSS48QB. The refrigerator side is working perfectly but the freezer side is no longer keeping things frozen. It is still cool inside but nothing is frozen.

I had the same problem with my 3 year old GE Adora side by side. Call GE at 1800-386-1215. They were very helpful! They sent me all new shelves and drawers that were obviously wider because they fit perfect(only took a couple days)! Included in the shipment were spacers that I could of put on the ends just in case I needed more width. GE knows about the issue and is dealing with it on a case by case basis.

Any refrigerator should last around 14 yrs. The freezer must be frosted up. I would try to defrost it and then start it back up. If you have a defrost problem you will see this again inside of a week. Also make sure the evaporator fan is operating.

see if the back wall inside of freezer have ice if so you have to change tiker board or check your doors if closing

You said, you have a side by side about fifteen years old need to know what type freon to charge it with.

The freon that's used in the old refrigerators is not legal now!
They started using a newer kind of freon years ago that does not deplete the ozone layer.
Yes you are low on freon, but that's because you have a leak somewhere.
And if by chance you could acquire the freon that you need to add into the older model fridge, it will just leak out again shortly!
My opinion is that you should not put good money into bad!
A new refrigerator uses less electricity than a fridge that is ten years old.
And yours uses 10% more than that!
you will see the differents in you utility bill as it will pay for it self in a few years!

I'm Huuum to your rescue.

Is your freezer packed to the top, and covering any air ducts near the back of the freezer?
The freezer and fridge share the air and if the circulation from the freezer to the fridge is cut off ,
this could cause problems.
Or you may just need a shot of coolant to raise the pressure in the coil.
It's not necessarily wise to spend a lot of money on an old fridge over 7 years old.
But*** it's better to try one service call and find out if it is one of the many simple things first, as I showed you. Then you would ne saving the price of a new fridge for awhile!
That's your call.

Your refrigerator needs to be turned off and aompletely defrosted. Overnight if possible. You have a large amount of ice built up on the freezer coil that is blocking air flow.
Most refrigerator sections are only cooled by air flow from the fan in the freezer section.
Thaw it and clean it out real good and you should be back in business.

I have this side by side Viking- The worst product I ever bought. Nothing but problems. If I can give anyone advise do not buy one.
