What I did after loads of trial & error trying t follow peoples advice on here so not sure how much of it you need t do (Stage 2) might not be neccessary so try 1) followed by 3) & 4) first ;o) :-

1) Deleted all the channels & reset the factory settings to 0000.
Turned off the box at the plug, left for a couple of minutes & turned back on

2) I reinstalled the software at http://www.4shared.com/file/76886028/fd4ac296/GTRom_the_box_Super_8102e_081129.html?err=no-sess (Not sure if thats necessary but I did so try this if 3 & 4 dont work without reinstalling)

3) Turned on the Box & went into the menu pressed 1570 on main screen to get into the CAS SASTEM & turned the EMU key ON

4) Reinstalled the channels using Telewest (Even tho I'm with Virgin) & voila, it worked & I can get all the channels again ;o)

SOURCE: Star view 5 start up (Virgin Media)

Press menu on handset.Standing on installation press numbers 1570. Changes to nagravision. Press OK. This will get you to key providers. Scroll right till you get to telewest/virgin.Use handset to put codes in 00 first then 01.Press store after each set of codes.
Telewest/virgin codes updated 12/10/09
00 - CF 53 OC 33 79 61 71 85
01- 52 5E 8D 45 FC 75 F6 4A After this press exit to the start.
You might have to do installation.
Press menu. On installation press 1668.While on telewest press OK. It should input all channels.

I have it connected to my tv via a scart lead and the main menu comes up. However I was wondering if I need to connect anything else to the box? I also have virgin media broadband do I need to connect the box to my modem or to the cable from the wall? I have also read quite a bit about needing firmware or a usb to put in the back of the box? Any help would be greatly appreciated."

SOURCE: just got the box usb2 star view 5 and can not get

Did you get a piece of paper telling you how to download the files onto the usb stick that you shold have got with the box.Then you put it into the back of the box before doing the installation.You also need the right code numbers which ever provider your with.
