"In 2002 Intel released a 130nm version of Xeon branded CPU, codenamed "Prestonia". It supported Intel's new Hyper-Threading technology, and had 512KB L2 cache. This was based on the "Northwood" Pentium 4 core."
"The 7300 series, codenamed Tigerton (product code 80565) is a four socket (packaged on Socket 604) and more capable -> QUAD-CORE processor.................."
First of all you can't replace a hard drive with a CPU (AMD Phenom X2 is a processor), second your computer supports only socket 478 CPU's ( that means no AMD Phenom only older Intel Pentiu 4/Celeron CPUs. My recommendation is to replace the motherboard and CPU altogether. But since your knowledge is relatively low i think you should not do it by yourself.
The Socket P has 478 pins, but is not pin-compatible with Socket M or Socket 478. Socket P is also known as a 478-pin Micro FCPGA or μFCPGA-478. Google it for stores that carry dual core Socket P chips.
Intel Pentium 4 Socket-T (LGA775) with Hyper-Threading or Dual-Core support, cache 1MB or 2Mb for 9100, or just 2Mb cache for 9150. I know of some of these machines having pentium D installed but I do not believe a Core 2 Duo is an option, whereas Dual-Core is. Good Luck!
Do you know what the CPU socket is or chipset? If the CPU socket is a 478 then no dual core. If it a 775 then you might be able to use a Pentium D dual core w/ 800MHz FSB. If you have a 945 chipset then the above will be true.
