Skype v6.6.0.106 is the last version which supports XP SP2. If you try install newer version, you will need SP3 installed, or you will get the kernel32 problem "Failed to get proc adress for getLogicalProcessorInformation (KERNEL32.Dll)".
If you don't want to install SP3 for your XP, here is a work around for you to run Skype with XP SP2.
1. Download Skypesetupfull.exe v6.3.30.105;
2. Uninstall your current version of Skype from Control Panel;
3. Block the website download.skype.com in your router or in the
Host file;
4. Delete any auto downloaded skypesetup.msi in %Temp%
folder;
5. Install Skype v6.3.30.105.
Done.
Just scroll down the page for Audio drivers for both win XP and Vista,click on the blue version number to download the one you want.
Note : Incase you have win XP,some people has issues installing the xp driver with sp3 installed,the driver seems to work with only sp1 and sp2.So if u have SP3 and unable to install xp driver, do one of the following. 1) Uninstall SP3 and install SP2 and then try installing the driver for XP 2) Download Vista driver and install it with windows compatibility mode set to XP SP2.
Get the SP2 back since you have worked with that well. If the win Xp still suggest for updgrade to Sp3 express you can ignore it anyway. Just click cancell to any install command from the XP SP3 xpress. Hope it might help you.
The problem still exists. A couple of experts have given me recommendations, none of which were successful. Downloading of drivers always brings me to a place that requires registration and then
offering solutions for a price without a guarantee of success.
please check out in my computer systems device manager if anything in the sound section is in red or yellow remove it. unless win xp was made for your laptop the drivers are not there. you need to go to compaq web site and download your drivers.
