It is not seeing or reading the disc, either a dirty or bad optical pickup in the unit----most likely bad and cheaper to buy a new player than fix that.
Your system can possibly be dusty inside or the disk may be scratched real bad. Buy a keyboard airbrush can and spray the air inside to see if you can clean it.
you re going to need a new disk drive i had the same problem and called 18004myxox and they said its a bad disk drive and would cost 100.00 to fix so i went and bought a new 360 insteadf
Unit may have dust or contaminates built up on optical pickup. If you can reach the lens, try to very gently clean the pickup lens with a Q-tip. It is possible the unit has a defective turntable motor in which case you will have to have it replaced
The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.
Sounds like you have a bad floppy drive. If you are unable to read a disk and it wants to format it so it can read it try letting it format a floppy with no data on it or with floppy you don't care about. If it can format and you can read and write to it, then bad disks. If not then you know you have a bad floppy drive. Replace and enjoy.
