I have a Gateway Solo 9550 (older machine). The DVD-Rom reads movie DVD and DVD-Rw- without issues but the DVD-RW+ do not show up in the system at all. Why is that? I can't even boot from a DVD-RW+. Is the DVD rom defective or just old? Is there a fix for this?I have a Gateway Solo 9550 (older machine). If your Drive is a CD-Rome drive, surely it cant, for the drive cant read dvd disc.
Replace the drive of yours with DVD-Rom or DVD-RW in order to play dvd disc, DVD-RW simply has the added capablity to burn on DVD discs
do you have a cd writer or rom drive is the first thing you have to check, if it's a writer then put the disc in first and it should give you an option to write files to cd accept then follow the the instruction to add your files, assuming your running windows. iif that does'nt work check to see if your discs are + or - it may be your wriiter will only accept one kind
It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :( it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.

I have the same problem like you.one of the expert shared to me that my burner has faulted. I thing your problem is worse than mine cause I can still read cd rom vcd/ DVD files and movies. Just finfd new one that will give you quality output.
Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs,
which would be weird.
Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention.
To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance.
Good luck mate !
If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
i have the same problem - i bought Sony DVD-Rs but the dvd rom wont accept them. if these are not compatible, how can i find out which ones are??
