My microwave became very loud and will not heat. it is 5 years old and happened suddenly.

There are two likely sources; either a high voltage capacitor or the diode that feeds it. These are the components that produce high voltage for the magnetron. The latter can fail too but they have become very reliable. The magnetron circuit and the controls don't share much, that is why the rest of the oven still seems OK.
You may have trouble getting these parts unless you have a surviving service shop that stills repairs these appliances. Unfortunately, the Chinese have made most service techs obsolete and the shops along with them.

You may need a new microwave..however, the diode may be defective or the magnatron tube may need replacing,,The magnatron tube is only warranted for 5 years so it may be used up as the model is (10years)fairly old.

Get a new one ... they are not worth repairing.

It sounds like your magnetron failing.

If a fuse were blown, it would be totally dead with no lights, no display, etc.

Keeping it out of the landfill a while longer by getting it fixed is always an option.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.
