Hi Thanks. It was playing CDs and DVDs. Then it stopped playing and recording both. Using some Knowledge base articles, I have restored the CD playing recording, but the DVD still will not play. I removed the upper and lower limits in the registry, but that ha not helped. I have downloaded the latest firmware and there are no new drivers. Im running Windows XP SP3. The dektop is about 10years old. An online Sony technichian tried to fix it by running diagnostics, restoring registry values, etc. He said it must be a hardware problem. Im not so sure, since it plays CDs fine. In windows explorer, although the icon shows ithe drive as 'DVD-RW drive F:, when I click on it, the details box in the lower left corner shows CD drive. When a DVD is in the drive and I click on it, no files are shown in windows explorer, like it was a blank disc. Thanks for your assistance!Hi Thanks. It was playing CDs and DVDs. When you say play DVDs you mean watch DVD movies? Assuming the drive is not broken you need to use the DVD app. You could use VLC Player which you can download. It's an orange traffic cone icon.
Copy-protected DVDs prohibit people from copying them, which is piracy. Copying a DVD to sell or even to give away is illegal. You can play copy-protected DVDs in a standalone DVD player or in your computer's DVD drive, as long as your computer's software is up to date. These DVDs will play the same as DVDs that are not copy protected
Press the "Eject" button on your DVD player to open the DVD tray. Set the DVD into the tray, and push the "Eject" button to close the tray. Press the "Play" button on your DVD player, and the DVD will play. b> On a DVD Drive on a Computer Press the "Eject" button on your DVD drive to eject the DVD tray. Set the DVD into the DVD drive, and push the tray in to close it. Click the "Start" tab on your computer's home screen to open the "Start" menu. Click on "My Computer" to open it. Click on the DVD drive to open the DVD. Click on "Autoplay" to play the DVD.
