Error code 5100 /this error is an error within the printer. This error means that there is
something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that
you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or
in my case popcorn. Check VERY thoroughly.

Usually an error 5100 code is saying that the ink carriage has problems. Usually something currently is or recently hammed the cartridge carriage. With the machine turned off and the power cord unplugged, open the machine and inspect the inside do you see any stray pieces of paper along the paper's usually route?

How to correct error 5100 on a cannon pixma MP 530

I would do all of the following and see if yo can clear this code. It is not on any Canon list of possible codes, so I have no idea what it means., but let's do this:
Turn off the printer and unplug it. Remove the print cartridges. Look at them, are they leak free? Look into the cartridge holders. Are they clean?. Dried ink or blobs should be cleaned off with a little alcohol and a Qtip.
Are the little wire holders bent or broken? Do they look exactly the same?
Turn the printer back on reinstall the cartridges.Check in your printer preferences/services and clean your cartridges. Turn the printer back on reinstall the cartridges.Check in your printer preferences/services and clean your cartridges.
Now turn it off again and unplug it. Open the paper jam door and gently push the paper roller forward until it clicks. At the same time, look for even the tiniest scrap of anything in there. Close the paper jam door and plug your printer back in. Restart your computer.
If the problem is not solved. You may need to reinstall the printer. Do You have your original disc? Be sure to do a clean install. ( Turn off all running programs in the lower right corner including your virus control. Also go to Toolbar>tools>internet options>general>and delete all you cookies and temporary internet files.) Turn off and unplug your printer.
Reinstall the software. When it is finished if it has not told you to plug your print back in do so now. Restart your computer and turn your printer on.
I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Error code 5100 i have turned off machine, unplugged at electrical source. After 30 min replugged in to electrical source, turned on printer. Pressed print button. Machine processes for a few minutes...

Hello and Welcome

Error 5100 means that the cartridge can not be detected by the printer.
Actually the printer is not actually loading the cartridge and showing you the error 5100.

To solve these follow the following steps. I hope it works
  1. Turn off printer
  2. Remove both the cartridges from the printer
  3. Use a clothe moistened with alcohol to clean the surface contact on the cartridges where the terminals inside the printers touches
  4. Return the cartridges
  5. Turn on the printer.
Error will be removed

Cancel printing, turn off the machine. Then clear the jammed paper or protective material that is preventing the FINE cartridge holder from moving, and turn the machine on again. If not remedied, turn off machine, unplug the power cord of the machine from power supply. Plug machine back in and turn power back on. If problem is not resolved, please contact service center. How do i fix error code 5100

Hi You can Try

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
And Also
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

When I start my canon pixma MX 700 series I gets error code 5100

First of all, make sure you pay attention to when your warranty expires, because this error tends to repeat and you get disgusted and request warranty support only too late. The problem is probably caused by a sticky paper sensor, but the printer must be turned off and turned back on to reset. If it persists in displaying the error, then you should lift open the main part (scanner) look carefully in the back right for the black plastic piece that is the paper sensor and poke it with a narrow scissors or something to nudge it back down. Then turn it back on and hopefully it clears the error. However, if that's the problem then it will likely recur.
