This is a problem with your screen caused by excessive use, not turning the computer off or not allowing the display to sleep. More lines will appear if you continue treating it as you have; go into System Preferences --> Energy Saver and change the Display Sleep time to be shorter, like 15 minutes or so and check the "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" box. Hopefully it will not get worse or you can live with lines on the screen, otherwise you will need to replace the screen which could cost roughly half or more of the cost of the actual Desktop.

White line in center..sound iis fine

Most common are soldering problems on the vertical deflection IC's.
If this line is quite bright: shut down the set, it might damage the picture tube permanently. Resolder all pcb connections under the vertical defl. part. With a magnifier you can see "craters" around the footprints. Where is the vert. deflection. ? Mostly an integrated circuit
on a vetically mounted heatsink . Typnumber: mostly something TDA53xx like. Gently knocking with a screwdriver and observing the screen might lead you to it's location if you're not familiar with TV's.
Watch out: lethal voltages !

Horizontal line running through the middle tv screen, no picture but has sound. TV is a Toshiba.

You haven't vertical deflection.
The ff caused the problem.
1. Dry joints on the vetical section.
2. Blew Vertical ouput IC
3. Open yoke vetical winding.
4. No vertical output from jungle IC.
5. Open supply for vetical ic due to open fusible resistor.

I've suspect that you have #1 and #2 fault. This is not Diy so I've advice you to send to repair shop or look for a qualified tech to isolate the problem.

Thanks for using fixya.

Line down middle of the screen-resolution is different on sides

Computer parts can sit in warehouses and be on trucks for a long period of time. Unfortunately that means things get banged around. Sometimes they don't even work when they come out of the factory. I suggest exchanging the monitor for another one. It could also be your video card. Easiest way is to exchange it and it's free to exchange.

Verticle line down the middle of lcd monitor.

This is a common problem with LCD screens. It is pixel line damage and the screen is permanently damaged and is not repairable. It will probably get worse. The only answer is to replace it
