Yeah I have them plugged into my laptop, however, when the laptop is off and the speakers are also turned off by the remote, there is still a slight humming sound coming through the speakers and it increases intensity when i switch the speakers on by the remote. Is it normal for speakers to make a humming when on standby? It is just quite annoying in between songs or at quiet parts of movies

Sounds like the speakers are not plugged in to the computer, or are plugged in to the wrong socket.

The speaker socket on a PC is usually green, a 3.5mm stereo socket.

No, I wouldn't expect any buzzing from the speakers. Noise like that usually comes from a mains cable or power adaptor too close to the input or the speakers themselves.

Do the speakers use a 3.5mm plug or are they some sort of USB setup?

If 3.5mm - if you unplug from the laptop and short the speaker inputs to ground, do you still egt the buzzing?

There is a humming problem to my sound logitech Z 5500..

The buzzing sound could be caused by a few different things. First thing is to check all the connections to ensure they are indeed plugged in well. Then check to see if you have a microphone plugged in, if so unplug it and see if the buzzing stops. You can also try going into the sound properties on your computer and muting the microphone in the software. If that doesn't solve the issue, it may be an the environment and the speakers are picking up on electrical noise from another device or another cable that isn't properly shielded.

I just bought logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers, but its making a buzzing noise how do i fix that please. could it be that my sound card is not good enough?

if you buy a 5.1 speaker you also need 5.1 sound card that supports the speakers. although it will still work with ordinary sound card but you can't actually use the feature of the speakers. the buzzing sound can cause by loose connections of the audio cable or audio connector. you can also hear a buzzing sound if you connect it at the wrong port. just remember the color codes
green - audio out (for speakers) red - microphone blue - line in or audio in black - digital audio

Select Start > (right click) My Computer > Manage
In the Management window select > Device Manager
Next to Sound, Video and Game Controllers click the + sign
A yellow triangle will signify a problem so if one is present, right-click that device and select Properties
You can then choose to update the driver

Speaker buzzing at random

It sounds like the socket on your computer is becoming worn or has a loose solder joint.

If you feel comfortable with a fine tipped soldering iron and stripping your computer down I would take a look there first.

Also check the power supply for the speakers to make sure it is not getting too hot.

Buzzing/humming noise that increases as you raise volume. So loud that you can not even watch tv

Hello snow1525,

You may have a torn speaker element. This is usually the cause of buzzing noise in the sound, also you may have a bad capacitor in your audio section. This is what I would suggest doing as a test open the front bottom panel of your TV and visually inspect the speakers for signs of ripping and or tearing in the speaker element. If the element or elements are torn it may be possible to repair it with rubber cement or rubber paste just coat the tear with the rubber cement to hole the torn edges together and allow it to dry for two days before testing the sound. If the speaker elements are not ripped then the problem may be a bad capacitor either in the audio section (power supply) or in the filter block (usually attached to the speakers to separate bass and treble signal to the speakers.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Buzzing noise from speakers

The buzzing noise is being heard probably because there is another electronic device around that's using radio waves to function. (Such as a cell phone, a cordless phone adapter or a wireless router. Even microwaves and ceiling fans can give off these sounds.)

My advice would be to try and move around or turn off some appliances in your room that may give off radio waves.
