Sounds like you are trying to convince the machine to print a document on to paper half the size required without telling the machine to reduce or scale the document to fit the target paper
first remove all paper trays and inspect for paper behind the tray area and inside the machine second verify if the paper trays are set to the correct paper sizes this is easy just look at the screen under paper trays and all trays should tell you what they are set to
the paper may not have come out the paper tray and this is causing the error check the paper tray settings and the paper side and end guides have the paper held in properly.. if you pull the tray out and press the paper down the guides should be touching the sides and end of the paper this will allow the paper to be fed properly..
Generally there are a couple of tray elements that can affect a paper size error. Check to make sure the width and length support elements are located and locked properly. See if a small switch is located on the tray that designates the appropriate paper size being used. I have had users accidentally move the switch from standard to legal and prompt an error that would not be reset until the switch was moved to the correct position. My problem was with an HP 4350 but the two units may have the same switch element.
You possiblely have something loose in the tray or something broke. Find something metal and thin, like a hack saw blade, and stick it through the slot between the drawer and printer and see if you can feel the obstruction, and if so try to move it out of the way. Something is catching on the printer frame and drawer.
