I want to adjust the sensitivity of my touch pad, but I cannot find any software that allows me to do so. The only pointer software and driver hardware apparent in control panel is for a mouse.

Those mouse options, speed, buttons, tapping to click - should still apply to the touch pad - see if Have a look at a TAB called Pointer Options - that will enable you to slow and speed up the touch pad response

My touch pad not working probably .

Adel Heider,

You may want to first download the driver and install it into the system from the link below.
Inspiron 1545 Drivers Download Page

Erratic Pointer Movement

Here are some easy steps to take to determine the problem with a touch pad demonstrating erratic pointer movement:
  1. Get the latest driver from support.dell.com - Most problems can be corrected with a simple driver download. This should always be one of the first steps when diagnosing any touch pad problem.
  2. Check for hand and finger placement - The most common cause of random pointer movement is that the touch pad senses a finger or part of the hand near the surface of the device.
    • Have the customer attempt to use the touch pad normally but to pay attention to the location of his or her hands and fingers. Are any straying too close to the touch pad?
    • Adjust the Touch Sensitivity and TouchCheck settings in the Touch Pad Settings section of the Dell Touchpad Properties.
  3. Try an external mouse - Does this problem happen with an external mouse attached?
    • The Device Select section of the Dell Touchpad Properties has options to enable or disable the touch pad or external mouse. Try several combinations of these settings.
    • If the problems only occur when the touch pad is enabled and do not occur any time a mouse or other external device is used, then the issue is related to the touch pad.
  4. Check for mechanical problems - If the problem cannot be corrected by adjusting the settings mentioned above and only occurs with the touch pad enabled, then this could indicate a mechanical problem.
    • Press down on the palm rest on first the left side of the touch pad and then the right. See if the cursor starts moving on its own.
    • Run Dell 32-bit Diagnostics and try to recreate the problems there. If either of these situations occur, then replace the palm rest.

No Pointer Movement

No pointer movement from the touch pad (or track stick, if available) usually is the result of one of two things: The touch pad has been disabled in the driver interface, or the touch pad cable is damaged or disconnected. Follow the steps below to determine the problem.
  1. Connect an external mouse - In either situation, an external mouse should still function. If it does not, try booting into Safe Mode and testing both devices again.
  2. Enable the touch pad in the driver settings - Using the external mouse (or key strokes if no mouse is available), go into the Dell Touchpad Properties. Go to the Device Select section and enable the touch pad. If already enabled, get the latest driver from support.dell.com.
  3. Test the device in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics - To eliminate a potential software problem, run the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics and test the device here.
  4. Check for mechanical problems - As a last resort, press down on the palm rest where the touch pad connector is located on the system board. If the pointer reacts in some way, then the cable may just need to be reseated. Otherwise, replace the palm rest.

Gateway the touch pad not function why?

Adjusting the touchpad sensitivity on a Gateway laptop lets you fix and prevent annoying touchpad problems.
Often the touchpad is accidentally brushed while typing, which causes the cursor to move out of place.
Or you may find yourself having to tap too hard or too often on the touchpad to open windows and programs.
These problems can be fixed by simply adjusting the touchpad's sensitivity settings.
Click the "Start" button and double-click "Control Panel."
Double-click "Hardware & Sound" and choose "Mouse" to open the mouse properties box.

Choose the "Device Settings" tab. Highlight "Synaptic Touchpad" in the Devices box by clicking on it. Click the "Settings" button underneath the Devices box.
Choose "Sensitivity" in the properties settings box.
Click "PalmCheck" to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to accidental brushes against the pad while typing, which causes the cursor to move.
Click and hold the pointer to adjust the setting on the sensitivity scale.

Click "Touch Sensitivity" to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to tapping.
Click and hold the pointer to adjust the setting on the sensitivity scale.
A higher rating on the scale means less tapping pressure will be needed.

Click "OK" to save your touchpad settings.

Asus touch pad too sensitive

There should be settings in the touch pad software on your machine or in the task bar that you can directly access to change all manner of personal idiosyncrasies related to HID. (Human interface device) Try also going into the control panel and looking for input devices, mouse, touchpad and adjusting the settings from within there.

Cursor jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:
  1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.
  2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.
    1. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.
    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.
    3. Click Mouse.
    4. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab. (Figure 1)
      10583022.gif
      Figure 1: Pointer Speed
    5. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.
  3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.
