(laptop) unplug the power cord, then take out the battery, unplug all usb devices, leave it alone for a minute or two and then replug the power cord and then the battery. Turn the computer on and restart as normal. replug in your usb devices and they will reinstall as usual
Have the camera in shooting mode ready to take a picture. Press the right arrow button (this is the flash mode setting option). Keep pressing the right arrow to get to the desired flash mode you are looking for. In your case you want the squiggly arrow in a circle for flash off. One you do that then you are ready to take the image and the flash will not fire.
