Hi, I have a dixolon 770ii printer. It is shared locally over the network, I have added it to all nodes (Windows xp sp3) but the scaling doesn't work properly on one of the nodes, it works on all other workstations. I am a bit lost as to what is causing this problem and more specifically why it is only occurring on 1 workstation and not the others. Please advise. Thanks.

Could be a UAC (user access setting) issue. Windows shared printers are horrible, i suggest a print server instead.

Network issue

Hello

This is an unusual error. Error Code 1236 - The network connection was aborted by the local system.

There is no single issue that causes this error code, so we need to verify all of the networking basics are covered and working.

1. Verify the IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway are fully entered and / or populated by the DHCP server. Click START, then RUN, type in CMD then click the OK button. Type IPCONFIG /ALL - verify the three fields all have valid info for your network.

2. Verify you can see the local network - including other computers and network devices. This will rule out the possibliity that this computer cannot see any network devices and not just the shared folders

3. Log the user out and have another user that can access the shared folders log into this comptuer and try to access the shares. The user profile could be corrupted and preventing the user from accessing the shared folders. IF the new user cannot access the shared folders, then it is the PC / OS causing the issue. IF they can access the shared folders, backup the original user's data, delete their profile and have them log in again to create a new profile.

It is always recommended to upgrade Windows XP to Service Pack 3 - unless you have a very specific program that will not run on SP3.

How do i build a local area network in windows xp?

On the machine that the printer is connected to go to Start>Control Panel>Printer and Faxes>Right click the Printer that you want to Network and Left Click Sharing> Select the Option to Share the printer and Name it something that you wil remeber. On the Laptop go to printers and Faxes select add new printer and select Network Printer. And Choose the second option Put the Name of the Computer that the printer is connected to and then printer name. Example \\Desktop\HpPhotoSmart 8100. Also you will need to check to make sure that both machines are on the same Domain\Work Group. Go to Start>Control Panel >System>Computer Name Tab ( Here verify the Machines Name)> Join or Change Domain>Put the machines on the same Workgroup if they are not, Do the same on the laptop. To test this, on the laptop go to Start>run and type \\Desktop Name and you should see what is able to be shared. Walk thru the steps above to install the printer on the laptop and have the intall cd in the laptop to install the drivers and you should be good to go. I hope this is understandable. If not feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will see if I can clarify this for you. Happy networking!

Driver will not install due to "unknown error."

I am wondering if you have uninstalled all previous drivers .. I know in some instances the Alps Yahoo Groups suggest you un-install all drivers, so the program looks at it as a brand new install driver.

Try this.

I am trying to share a printer.

Are they both under the same network? Can the pc find the laptop under network connections and vice versa? If not, then right-click my computer, go to properties, go to the tab 'Computer Name' click on the button change, and make it part of a workgroup of your choice of name. Do this for both making them part of the SAME workgroup.
Then, make your printer shared under that workgroup.
