I have just bought a used Marshall VS65R amp. When I play it sometimes cuts out completely. Sometimes it comes back on by itself, sometimes not. If it cuts out and I plug in headphones, they work. When it goes out if I bang on it around the speaker jack it comes on. ??? When it plays it sounds great. I replaced the pre-amp tube and that made it cut out more. Need help.

Very carefully tap the side of the valve with the amplifier switched "ON" and see if a crackling distorted noise happens. If so the valve is loose or the amp has been dropped and the valve is on the way out

Make sure that when the audio from the speaker cuts, the headphones are still working (try it several times). If this is correct the problem isn't at the preamp or driver tubes. Try to locate the wire that is connecting the speaker with the amplifier. There must be a bad connection at this cable or at the speaker's coil itself. Try hiting with a solid tool (the back of a screwdriver for example) the parts and the connections (not the tubes, just the mountings) while the amplifier is working in order to locate a loosing contact. Once you find it use a soldering gun to fix the connection.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

I have owned one of these amps for many years, what happens is the two circuit boards tend to vibrate during use. If you examine closely the solder joints around the larger electronic componets (i.e. big caps) you'll notice broken solder joints. Re-solder and away you'll go. I have to do this every 6 months to a year but I only play loudly about twice a week. You'll need to take the circuit boards out of the chassis to get access to the undersides for solder repair.

I have a Marshall VS65R amp that WAS working great until someone tried to daisy-chain another amp via the headphone jack and a couple circuts on the board cooked and look burnt. No sound now. Is it wo

Assuming the repair is beyond what you can do yourself, I'd estimate the cost of repair to be $75-100. You'd have to decide if it;'s worth it to you or if you'd be better off appling the funds to a new amp. If you liked it before it blew up, I'd get it fixed.

Only just bought amp ,but twice now its just cut out, lost sound ,if i switch off wait a minute it ciomes back on cannot be normal surely? rgds neil

Not normal... however verify your guitar cable and guitar to avoid embarassment if the problem might be with those items. ALSO if you are driving this too hard, it probably has thermal shutdown and will shut down the power amp if the circuits get too hot... This is a smaller amp so If you are playing louder than *********** could stand it in a 15 foot square room, you are overdriving this unit and you best get a bigger one.

NEVER CONNECT PEDALS THROUGH THE EFFECT LOOP OF AN AMP. They are NOT design to work at the same signal levels !!! ONLY use effect units that are design to be used in amp effects in the amp effects loop/

I run a pod HD 500 into the amp and It breaks up, like there is a blown speaker sometimes.

The Marshall is a super clean acoustic amp.

The POD is overloading the amp.

Try the electric guitar input and keep the gain on the amp down, keep the EQ level and use the POD and the end volume to adjust the final volume.

The normal inputs is for a low output acoustic pickup - the POD is a high output electronic source.

Start with the Marshall gains low and get the clean sound good, then work on the gritty sound.

The amp is voiced for a sweet clean sound - if you want grit'n'ball change to a 50w Marshall valve head and a 4 X 12 cabinet.

Ive just purchased a marshall mg250dfx amp and when i play the volume cuts down low and then back up again like its fading in and out every so often

Since you just purchased this, verify that your guitar and cables are good on another amp and if they are good, then exercise your warranty on the Marshall.

Connectors and cables for guitars are chronic problems so verify they are good to avoid looking foolish.

Hi, I have a marshall VS65R I bought in 96. It sat in storage for close to 8 years. I plugged it in and it sounded great....a week later at band rehearsal I played two songs and the sound went out...I...

Some of these have electrolytic caps in the power supply that are nearing end-of-life. I would take unit in for servicing if you are not electronically adept.

First thing though, check for a bad input jack as these often go bad. A wiggle test of the plug should make that possibility reveal itself.

JCM 2000 TSL 601 MARSHALL AMP TURNS ON NO SOUND TUBES DONT LIGHT

If the tubes are not lighting, either the fuse has blown or the power transformer might have an issue.

Be vvery careful as there are lethal voltages present in these.

If the fuse blew, replace it and try just once as there could be other problems and more damage could be done.
