If you look under the scan assembly you will see a yellow or green tab which locks
the scan head. Try locking and unlocking it a few times then on the final unlock
reboot your printer.
Typically, the problem is caused by a faulty phone line (even though you can make calls and send FAXes). Contact your telephone/telecom provider for their assistance. Hope this helps.
To connect the machine for use as a fax machine, plug the cord into the left side of your machine, lower phone jack labeled LINE and the other end into the wall phone jack. To connect a telephone to your machine, plug into top jack on the left side of machine labeled EXT. Is your phone line in the " line" jack and not the ext jack?
If the line is digital it will do that.
If the phone line voltage is low, the line current low that will also cause the problem. In your fax settings. Is ECM turned ON.
Is Junk Fax OFF.
Secure Fax OFF.
Delay Fax OFF.
If your phone line is weak, it will cause that problem.
I was told by Xerox support tech that he thought it was the fact that we do not have a dedicated analog phone line, but the fact remains we can receive faxes but cannot send them. The only fax that will send is directly to Xerox support.???. The machine was working fine, faxing (sending and receiving), until about a week or so ago, when we had a repairman here on the printer. He told me to report the problem to our telephone repair service. He is coming out today! I'll let you know.
