I attempted to upgrade the RAM on my HP Pavilion zv5000. (the one under the keyboard) when I tried to turn it on, there is just a blank screen. Any idea what the problem is? The laptop was installed with 256 when I bought it. I tried to install 1g. I did upgrade the one on the bottom of the laptop to 512mb.

According to the link below you can do the upgrade. If is not working, make sure you have the memory seated correctly, then mix and match the memory and switch slots to find the problem memory. It may be incompatible with either the motherboard or the other memory sticks, or just a bad stick.

Did you remove the "old" RAM, or did you add the "new" RAM to the old RAM?

Try using your computer with ONLY the "new" RAM installed.

The computer will start up but the screen will be blank

Try plugging in a regular computer monitor, if that works then you will need to open it up and check the screen's connection. if you get now lights from the regular monitor then you will need to check you ram/memory to see if it is connected properly.

HP zv5000 request Power on Password

It seems that a bios password keeps you locked out. Try entering the bios (del or F2 during the boot) and get back to defaults or reset the password.

Display is bland on power on.

Three long beeps is usually a warning that the video card or RAM may be gone.

I'm upgrading Ram Compaq R3200 laptop

Found my solution. Was under keyboard. Required opening laptop as far as possible, removing 3 screws from the back that hold the piece of plastic just above the keyboard. With flathead screwdriver lift the right corner of the plastic piece then, with the same screwdriver lift the top center of the plastic piece to remove the piece entirely. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the keyboard (across the top) and lay they keyboard forward (toward you). THERE is the Ram.
