No. This setting simply allows the camera to go through the motions without a memory card, so you can demonstrate it in the shop. The alternative is to lock the camera so as to prevent shooting without a memory card. Either way, no pictures are saved.

SOURCE: how delete pictures from the memory card of sd700 power shot cano

Ok. Here is how you do it. 1. Go into the Setup menu. Hit menu and scroll right to the wrench and hammer symbol. 2. Scroll down to where it says Format and press the menu button again to select it.  3. In that menu, scroll up to Low Level Format and scroll left or right to add a check mark.  4. Scroll over to OK and press Func/Set. That will erase everything. Be sure you want to!
That will do it. Let me know if I can help any further. And if your happy with my answer, rate it appropriately, and thanks for coming to FixYa.

Have you tried connecting the SD card to the PC?
Make sure you can do that, Also, After you transfer them off, Make sure the slot the SD card fits into isn't dusty, and, If it still doesn't function, Re-Format the card after you've taken the images off.

Did you buy and insert a memory card?
Is the memory card unlocked?
The internal memory is very small and not fit to shoot your pictures.
If you did put in a new memory card, please goto the setup menu and format the card.

Can you recover pictures if shoot w/o card is on?

Do you mean;" if you take pictures without a memory card in your camera, would you be able to upload those pics to your computer?"...If this is what you menat then plug the usb cord into your copmuter and camera, click " start" on desktop, then click on "my computer" in the window that opens up...Look for a disc containing your camera pictures and you will see any pictures left on the built in memory in the camera (usually only holds a few picture)

Sony cyber shot 7.2 Carl Zeiss transfer pics on memory card

No.
Take the memory stick out of the camera then connect to the computer. You can then transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer.
Alternatively, use the camera's copy command to copy the pictures from the internal memory to the memory stick.

Internal memory??

Highly recommend that you consider using a card reader to download you pictures. You insert the camera's memory card into the reader, and then insert the reader into a USB port on your computer. The card then shows up as a hard drive so that you can simply copy/paste or drag your picture files onto your computer. Card readers are much more faster in downloading pics, do not require the use of your camera's batteries, and provide much more reliable downloading of the pictures (fewer errors). They're also VERY inexpensive these days. Here are some examples of CF card readers from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1223745821/ref=sr_st?keywords=cf+compact+flash+card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acf+compact+flash+card+reader&sort=price

Also, if the card has somehow become corrupted, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos. Take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will also need to use a card reader with this software. Finally AFTER you've recovered your photos, recommend formatting the card IN YOUR CAMERA to prevent this from happening again. Note that formatting will totally erase your card. Turn on the camera, press the menu button, select the tools menu. Go down to the selection that states your CF card's memory capacity and select it. Then follow the formatting prompts.

Memory card error is common problems in various sd cards and cf cards. I took a closer look at my little SD memory card. It has a sliding lock on it to protect data. Check to see if the card works when you slide that lock up or down. Read more about memory card:

Canon S1- Camera doesn't save the pictures - What to do ???

No, it,s free. It's just that your answers are from hobbyists and knowitalls who reply when they have the time to stop by here (it's like Yahoo answers, but with geeks:).

Sounds like your memory card may be faulty. Take no more pics until you've recovered the missing photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for (recommend the last one listed):
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/recovering-those-accidentally-lost.html

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

And finally, recommend formatting the card in the camera after you've recovered the pictures. Look for a "Low Level" format option in the camera's menus. The format should help prevent this from happening again.

Lost pictures????

It sounds like your memory card is corrupt. This most important thing is not to use the card any further until you have recovered your pictures. Unfortunately i see from the date of your post that this may not be the case. What you need is some memory card picture recovery software. There are several shareware programs available for download. Try googling it. Good luck!
