A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below: 1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab. 2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page. The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps. If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below: 1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab. 2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer. 3. Get a damp paper towel. 4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds. 5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean. 6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing. 7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer. 8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install." 9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.
sounds like your heads are all gummed up with dried ink.Is this a older printer or previously used if so run the cleaner that should have come with your printer software. keep running it until clean or bring it to get cleaned.

You probly have a cloged cartridge. Most of HP's cartridges are water based ink. Take the cartridge that is not printing good, color or b/w, set the copper colored end, which is the print head on a dry paper towel. You should be able to see all colors as a solid line, or the black will show 2 solid black lines. The one that is not correct, take a paper towel and get it damp, and set the print head on the damp towel, be sure to fold the towel or it will stain the table you set it on. and let it set for a few minutes. Try the dry towel again. You may have to do this several times..You also should have software to prime your cartridages. After cleaning, try to prime the cartridge.
In both cases be sure using correct ink. Use of generic ink can lead to leakage of catrridge seats do to crossion from inferrior ink quality (per Cannon). Be sure ink in proper locations - see manual. Run the maintenance proceedures: cleaning then print nozzle pattern. If all colors are not proper after two or three cleanings, perform deep cleaning. Print nozzle pattern after each cleaning. This should clear up problem. If not, print head may need replacement.
sounds lke your yellow nozzle not working properly...had same issue on lexmark printer, ended up geting this epson...learnt from my mistakes...perhaps it ran dry? or you left the yellow cartridge out longer than the rest....only you might know what happened
There is probably dried ink blocking the tubing or print head.
The Maintenance section of your user's guide has a procedure for cleaning the print head and testing the ink nozzles. It may be necessary to have the print head replaced if the maintenance procedures won't clear the problem.
If you don't have the owner's manual, you can download it from Canon on this web page.
