Hello,

Here's a link to a very helpful video that shows you step by step on how to access and replace the belt on your machine. When the brushes stop spinning, but the rest of the machine works fine, this is a tell-tale sign that your belt has gone bad.

Video Showing how to access and change belt:

If you open up your machine and find that the belt is still engaged, or you replace it and this doesn't fix your problem, please feel free to use the comment form here on this repair page and I'll be happy to walk you through some more advanced diagnosing.

If you found this helpful, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave some feedback. This is really appreciated.

My 8920 seems to be eating belts. Sometimes the unit will not spin when the arm is moved back, is there an interlock switch?

My belts are intact, but the brushes still are not spinning

I replaced both belts and still the brushes won't turn

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

You may need to clean your roller brush first and try to see if this would resolve the issue. If not, then most likely your roller brush needs to be replaced.

You may order replacement parts for your Bissell directly to us. This is our Bissell replacement parts: http://www.thinkcrucial.com/collections/vacuums/collection-filter-fits-vacuum-bissell

Will the machine spay water if the belt on the left hand side that turns the brushes is broke?

Yes it will. I had same problem. You need to replace belt. Bissel site tells you how and you can buy new belts from them.

Brush Motor Replacement

This the number for the brush roll motor, 2036757, is it the one you got? I don't remember having to remove the pulley, I am thinking that the pulley is on the new motor. The 8920 is a good number? Where you on the Bissell site, or some other site.

The brushes will only work if the handle is released and the ProHeat vacuum is running . There is a micro switch inside the lower handle that switches on the DC carpet brush motor. The DC power for the motor comes from a Bridge Rectifier on the PC Board. [email protected]

Bissell Proheat 2x Series 8920 - Brush Belt Metal Shaft Sprocket won't turn

Most likely the brush motor is bad and not turning, part #2036757, would sell for around $23. To get to it, start taking out screws on the top cover, that motor is under the that top access cover.
