Hi, i have a ''hunter 23918 classic original which runs suddenly slowly, anyone who can help me out, or can forward me a wire diagram, thanks, from johnbraks.
It seems that the motor armature is burn or about to burn . If you
can fix it by yourself , then dissemble the unit, remove the motor.
Loosen the bolts running from end to end of the motor and with emery
cloth, clean the small metal plates on the end of the armature. They
should be bright copper color. If the armature is burnt, they will be
dull brown. The other thing is to replace the brushes in the motor . or
call for repairing if you are not sure that you can do it by yourself .

First off, is this a newly installed fan, or an older unit? These fans use oil for lubrication of the bearings, is the reservoir full of oil? Are the blade brackets which hold the blades to the motor loose? Check those screws and the oil level. Here is the owners manual to your fan
Sounds like a good ol' American made Hunter Original to me. BEST and most powerful residential ceiling fan (high quality) ever made. The RPM spec is 200-160-50 for the respective speeds, moving 10,500 CFM on high speed. Most ceiling fans barely crack 5,000 CFM. they were built for Brute Force Air Movement and they really don't do well for small spaces. The best solution I have for you is if you have a Wall switch for this fan, to install a Hunter Original Wall control or remote control. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=hunter+original+control&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Both controls will lower the Medium speed to about 100-110 rpm, which should be much more comfortable for you.
Because the Hunter Original (I know your fan is an American made unit by your wire colors) draws more current than other fans, the Original controls are the only controls that are designed to work with your fan. Other controls do not have the current capacity for the Original motor.
The cause to the problem was replacing a HUNTER fan switch with a Hampton Bay switch. Before removing the old switch, I noted and marked the color and position of the 4 wires. I then duplicated the connections to the new switch.
But the wire positions of Hampton Bay vs Hunter are not identical, therefore 2 wires
were crossed.
The correct way is to note the color of the wires with the corresponding NUMBER
marked on the switches, then duplicate this on the new one.
first turn it off, then rotate the fan, half turn and try to turn if on again. if it start running again you have a faulty motor, and need to replace it. or if the problem continue, try replacing the switch in the wall.
please do not rate this as an answer, just wanted to see if you have a model number of the fan, motor, speed controller, etc. many people here can help you, but providing an answer without knowing exactly how the default wiring is set up is never a good idea.
