When trying to make a call it says emergency calls only

Hi, it means you have a weak signal. That's why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

It is very likely not have a good signal. So your phone connected to another network where only emergency calls are permitted

make sure the sim card if it has one is all the way in,i know my blackberry did that if the sim card was knocked lose,my iphone will only allow emergency calls when its locked.

3 Stay within your roaming area. If you travel out of your area, some cell phones and providers (e.g., BlackBerry, iPhone and AT&T) will only allow you to make emergency, or 911, calls.

4 Click "OK" and "Contacts." Navigate to "Emergency Contacts," or a selection with similar wording. Select "Disable." This prevents you from making accidental calls to 911.

I think ur sim is locked try to call customer care

If you are trying to dial in only one place and it is reading emergency calls only that means you are not getting signal. Mine stays on emergency calls only while in the house using a T-mobile sim card. I don't get very good signal here. Try it in other places and see if you catch signal. If it's stuck on emergency only make sure the slot is turned on under dual sim settings in settings. If it still doesnt work I'd send the thing back :P

go to itunes. when plugging in to computer hold down the home key it should restore factory settings. i called apple.

Tried the "age old trick" of turning the phone off and then turning it back on. Wahlah!!!! Back to normal, can make calls without any problems.
