SAMSUNG DLP HLS4676SX/XAA...
This is actually a question for francisco abreu, you seem to be the only one that knows exactly how to fix this problem... I'm trying to avoid having to buy a new main board. I understand that the audio IC I s located there and quick fix would be to replace the entire thing BUT is there anyway you can look for the mapping of my a/v board and main board to help me fix my problem. Mines does exactly the same as the above stated... watch t.v. popping noise sounds out. Then sound fades totally away. Only to return briefly after its been turned off for a while.
Thank you
SAMSUNG DLP SOLUTION. I fix a similar model Samsung HLS4666w model. If the chasis are the same bp41-00278a. I added capacitors to each of the three dc to dc converters on the main board. You can download the data sheet for ic212 (MP1583dn). Remove the metal cover which covers one third of the main PC board. To test this fix, only one of the dc to dc converter needs a capacitor. Location IC 212 is the dc to dc converter of major interest and will fix all problems. Add a capacitor on top of capacitor presently located at location c217 as printed on the pc board. be careful with polarity of capacitors. Do not place this capacitor on the ic pins of MP1583dn. The voltage at location c217 should be STB 3.3 volt. You could also place the capacitor at location BD212 (+3.3) and ground, instead of on top of capacitor, if you need more clearance. BD214 and ground for converter ic 213 or on top of capacitor C236. At capacitor C212 for ic211 or at BD210 to ground. The value should be 33 uf or more, anything less will have limited fix. I would not pass 60 uf. I place a 33 uf capacitor with a working voltage of 35. This fix not only work for popping noises from speaker, but it also improve the colors. Solder with caution, leave no speck of solder behind. good luck. search the web for free service manual. I may not be able to respond to questions.
The solution above has fail. It only solved temporarily possibly making problem worst. The sound starts cracking and popping after approximately 35 minutes, than the sound goes out completely. I suspect something is overheating worst now, possibly a LDO Voltage Regulator. I will investigate and post again.
I found a solution to the sound problem, which was causing popping and static sound from the speakers. This was also shutting down the audio after watching TV for some time. I place a heat sink on IC 987 part number stv8258DSX. This IC controls the sound and is overheating. The cause is unknown to me. Its easy to place a heat sink. Direction: cut the heat sink to size allowing room for a nylon nut. make as tall as possible. drill hole in center, but drilling only to its center, not through it.. Use nylon screw and nut (plastic). Insert the screw through the hole in the grill cover metal and than thread the nut to it. place the heat sink on top of the IC and place the grill cover back on aligning screw in the hole. (Don't forget to use thermo compound between the heat sink and IC). pull up on the screw while turning clockwise to tighten. I left the TV playing all night to the next morning and sound remain normal. I even turn on SRS sound mode.
