puzzled here because there is always some water left in machine this is normal .you are quite right when you say that when you take the drain hose out of stand pipe and lower it water comes out but that is because of gravity .
The timer will always advance to the next program if the machine does not fully drain. There is ALWAYS a spin when draining the water out, there is only one pump and one motor. The waterlogged laundry maybe telling the timer that there is still water in the tub. Put the machine on "Spin" and cheat the lid switch into thinking that the lid is closed. Use a clothes peg or wide ended screwdriver and see if there really is a spin....
If you suspect the dish washer, try discharging the drain in a bucket. After the drain cycle check the wash tub. If water is still left, you have to clean the drain filter attached to the bottom. Refer user guide.
The final drain end of the dish washer where you discharge, the fixing junction has to be cleaned, incase it is clogged.
you have blockage in you drain plug. to solve this problem you'll have to remove the lower front panel of your machine by removing the 3 (1/4") screws on the vary bottom of the machine. once the panel is removed you'll see a 1 1/2" white PVC drainage plug. turn the inner plug to the left in till open. (WARNING ALL THE WATER IN THE DRUM WILL DRAIN THOUGH THIS PLUG) remove debris likes socks or everything that's there replace the panel and your all set.
There is always water left in the filter at the end of the cycle. Tjis is unlikely to cause the smell problem though. If you do a lot of 40 degree washes and use a biological detergent you can get a bacteria build up in the appliance which is very unpleasant. To rectify this, run the appliance on a 90 degree wash with two spoonfuls of washing soda in the soap drawer. Allow the program to complete the cycle( no clothes though) and repeat once more. This should help clean the appliance. Several appliactions may be required if smell persists.
humming noise suggests a foreign object in the pump. crack open filter and drain water into a shallow tray. repeat till empty. remove filter completely and clean it. check if something stuck in pump impellor. this should be visible by looking into the filter hole
