Olympus Camedia D-390 Digital Camera Logo
Anonymous Posted on Apr 19, 2010

When I turn on my Olympus Camedia D-390 it flashes an orange warning sign and says "Write Protect". This somehow came up after no problems shooting my first 100 or so photos and uploading-downloading to my Windows XP IBM Laptop. Why did this happen and can I fix the problem?

You need to look at the media card onto which you are taking the photos. Possibly when you reinserted that card into the camera, you accidentaly moved the copy protection switch into the read only position.

These things are so very small that they are hard to see, or even feel, and equally difficult to know when you have moved it.

Remove the card and check the edges for this switch, to ensure that it has not been moved into read only. Then move it back to allow writing to the card.

Orange light flashes on when turn on Olympus c-50 zoom camera and orange and green lights in upper left corner blink when try to take pictures. Won't take any pictures

The flashing Orange light means the charge is flashing.
The flashing Green light means the focus and exposure are not correct.

Have you recently replaced the batteries? Or are you using rechargeable batteries? Lack of enough "Juice" could allow for the flash to not charge up (Orange) therefore not allowing the camera to get the correct exposure (Green). I would try new fresh batteries or a new battery pack. If that doesn't fix the issue it must be a bad circuitry in the body that is shorting not letting the flash charge.

Jacob

I have an olympus camedia D-390 and was told at Best Buy that they dont make the memory card I need anymore. So what memory card can I buy for my camera?

They are correct...Olympus no longer makes the xd picture card. You might be able to find one at amazon.com This is a 7 year old camera and only 2megapixels. If I were you, I would step up to a modern camera that uses SD/SDHC cards. You will be amazed at the results you will get.

How to format

Hi,
Make sure the write protect lock is off by taking the card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab down, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

Put the card back in the camera and format it.

Hope this helps, good luck

Write Protect

I don't know if You have all the literature for Your camera, Olympus usually puts out a short version, and a more detailed one. I am not familar with the 390, suspect some setting is incorrect. Have You tried leaving the batteries out long enough for it to return to defaults? Give it several hours, see what it does.
